a hike in the desert

did a little hike up South Mountain Park which is on the south side of Phoenix.
Packed a lunch and carried water and it turned out to be a great day.
The weather was good, little warm but not hot. We went to the summit where
we could look out over the city......

got quite rugged, desert landscape, cactus and cactus type shrubs
and looking down at the city of Phoenix

I love the desert, too - great pics - looks like it was a great hike and fun for you. So great you have someone there to take to do all this - isn't it terrible that we only see the area we live in when people visit? Hope you are having a great time together just talking and catching up, too.

Deserts I have never explored, and hope to do that as soon as I get free from this ice box up here in the winters! BUT.....deserts in the summer, NO NO NO! I truly do not like heat above about 85, unless I can get into some cooling water! I didn't see much water out there, Ava!

Thanks for the pics!

well the overlook is a drive to and then you park the car and hike the trails. The one
trail we started out on is a total 18 mile hike but we didn't do that much. I don't know
how much we did, but we hiked for about an hour and then came back the same way.
The Salt River is down there and I can barely pick it out in the picture overlooking
the city but at that point there is very little water, most of it is underground there.
Later that day we went to the confluence of the Verde River and Salt River, I'll post
those tomorrow evening, you will be amazed at the difference in appearance and
it will still be desert too!

What neat pictures Ava, I drove through Phoenix, years ago, but don't remember much of the countryside. Looks like a great hike, I would love looking down on the city. Seems you found really interesting and fun things to do with your sister to make her visit nicer. Sounds like you had a nice visit with her, I sure hope so.

I'm looking forward to your other pictures of the two rivers. Hope you have time to post them soon.
