I'm flying to Phoenix 25 Oct. to pick up VW Rialta I bought off eBay. My good friend from AZ was planning to accompany me to Austin, now she can't. I don't know a gray tank from a black tank. Anyone with a Rialta have any tips to share? This Will be interesting to say the least. Any TX RVers close to Austin? I'd like to get some experienced advice. Looking forward to trips since retiring.

I hope since you bought from ebay you hired someone to check it out. If it isn't as described by the seller, you can change you mind. You didn't give any information about your purchase like age, age of tires, etc. if it hasn't been driven in awhile there are a number of things that should be checked/replaced before you head out on the road. Check the code on the tires to see how old they are, don't take their word for it. The owner should give you a walk through and explain all the systems and show you that they actually are working. Ask if there are any maintenance record and look them over, check out that any big issues have been fixed or if something keeps reoccurring. If you can, make a video of the walk through as you won't be able to remember it all. Drive it around like to an empty lot and see if you can back it up and also get the feel of it on the road while someone is with you.

Be sure you have a road service membership that knows about rvs. I use Coach-Net. Good Sam Club also has a road service.

It looks like there are several Yahoo Groups about Rialtas that you could join.

Most of the time RVers are a helpful bunch. If you have a problem in a campground ask someone for help.

Oh, yes a bunch of us in and near Austin...about 8-10, of which probably 3-5 can gather pretty quickly.

I am in OK now, just south of Chickasha. Actually this weekend I am in OKC meeting work friends and some new RVing friends. Can't wait to meet up with you. I just sent you a PM a few minutes ago.

You are going to have a great time if you can relax and just go with the flow. Depending on the rote you take and the size of your tanks, and where you stay - if they have showers, you might not need to dump until you get to OKC.

I moved this to the General Talk room. I think you might get more seeing it here. Lots in that area, so if/when you know you'll be there, that'll be the time to see about a gtg! Meantime, how exciting! One of my friends has a Rialta and I've always loved it.

Congratulations on the new rig! You'll do fine. There are so many nice people here to answer questions.

I LOVE the Rialta. It has such a clever use of space. It is fun to drive and I hope you love it.

The grey tank is where shower and kitchen sink water go. The black tank is the poopy one. When you drain your tanks, wait until both grey AND black tanks are full. Then drain the stinky black tank first, then the grey tank to wash out the hose. The panel back by the dinette (I think) will tell you when the tanks are full.

Getting them both full at the same time is the same dance I do in my 35-foot Class A.

Be sure to buy some product to treat and deodorize the black tank. It'll help break down the "stuff" that is in there. Be sure to use Scott single-ply TP. It breaks down the best. Check your tires daily to make sure they are properly inflated to carry the weight of your Rialta.
