Microwave safe dinner plates

Postby gingerK » Mon Jun 02, 2014 11:01 am

So what type of dinnerware or plates do you gals have in your campers? I have an old set of melamine plates but they can't go in the microwave. I'm not too sure I want to keep using them anyway. I really want something lightweight and strong enough to cut on. Suggestions please.
Any day spent in the company of my animals is a good day.

Corelle here too. Sturdy, fairly lightweight, and microwave safe.

Corelle for ligth weight and durable and safe for the microwave. They are breakable if you drive over large bumps and cabinet doors fly open and they hit the floor and shatter.....  :) Not that I would know of course...... :?

I have two microwave plates that I got from walmart, along with disposable plates and bowls. I did pick this up the last time I was at walmart, haven't used it yet, but I will on the next trip.

Paper plates and bowls 99% of the time, and Corelle otherwise. I got a new set of service for four of Corelle when I bought my motorhome, but frankly I have almost never used it. I find the paper bowls work better than the plates because I am less likely to have food fall off of them and they are very easy to eat out of. Paper does not require water for washing and are easy to toss.

I have one oversized mug that I got years ago that I use for soup and liquid stuff that needs to be heated up. Otherwise, it is paper.

Corelle here also. I break down and use paper when boondocking, but even then, if I know I'll be able to dump soon enough, I'll use the Corelle because I just hate thinking of adding more to land fills, etc.

Opposite of Beth - I use paper almost all the time; Corelle otherwise. Vicki, I had Corelle shatter the same way because of a curb, too. It is usually hard to break, but when it does, it explodes! I rarely cook much these days anyway and Lean Cuisines don't require ANY dishes! LOL

What Beth said. I try to avoid using things that go into a landfill. There is one thing I've started to use in my RV, and that is paper towels for wiping off dishes/cookware before washing in the RV sink. I don't know what else to use, as it seems impractical to use cloths - the food bits and grease would make that a messy smelly thing until I did laundry. Going to Alaska and boondocking make that difficult. What do others do?

I have noticed lot of paper products now are biodegradable. So that may relieve worry about disposing them.

Think we should all by stock in Correlle ! I have those in my RV too, I bought a set of Melamine on eBay but realized it wasn't safe in the microwave so I use it in the house. DH loves the way it looks, cups and plates are square.
