Who Plays What?

Postby FancyFree » Sat May 31, 2014 4:36 pm

Just wondering if anyone plays an instrument or instruments. LaceyLady plays an autoharp and I play the piano and organ. Since the piano and organ wouldn't fit in the RV, I recently started playing the dulcimer - sort of. Anyone else?

In Jr. High I played Percussion in the school band. It was snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, chimes & xylophone. That was 40 years ago!  I lost my xylophone, that I had kept since then, when the house flooded in 2006. Only thing I can play now is the radio & only if it isn't too fancy!

I play nothing, not even the radio. However, DS plays trombone, flugle horn and piano -- in two orchestras and gives private concerts to the cat when at home. Thankfully, none of the instruments are brought on trips. I suspect the trombone and an electronic keyboard would make it if we were on the road several months at a time.

I played the clarinet for 3 years in grade school/jr high before my band teacher discovered I couldn't read music, was just playing by ear. He made me quit.

I also tried playing the guitar but my fingers always got too sore from the wire strings. Only learned some cords for a few John Denver songs.

Have always wanted to learn how to play the harmonica, but after a few attempts, gave up. Even got a book called "Harmonica for the Musically Hopeless" and still couldn't figure it out!

Can't sing either :(

I had lessons in piano and violin for only a short time each. Long story there, but wish the violin had been continued. Now with my hearing loss, I'm kind of glad things worked as they did. And I also belong in the group who should never sing in public. maybe not in private either. but Peaches doesn't run away.

I play the piano and organ. Now that we have a larger motorhome, I'm considering taking my keyboard with me.

I played the violin through high school thanks to my dear sister Wilma sending money for lessons. Continued playing in church for several years. Have not played for 50 years. Played auto harp for singing with children but that was many years ago also. I do have a key board but just poke a note once in a while; it has many recorded songs on it an expensive radio I would say!!
If voice is counted sang alto for years in choir jr high, high school and church choir until 25 years ago. Sang duets with husband for many years.
I think we become tone deaf after a certain age but Shadow does not mind.
Oh yes sang once in a group at the McIntosh Christian Church. That was fun.
Long story short it has been many years.

I play the Indian flute but NEVER in public. The nice thing about it is that you don't need to remember any specific notes - just free wheel it.

Fun, interesting post. Music has always been a huge part of my life. My Mom was a trumpet teacher and I took accordion lessons for 11 years. We always had an array of instruments around the house - guitars, harmonicas, various horns, etc. I met my DH in a drum corps that my mother and I both played in. He was the drum major, my mother played trumpet, and I played glockenspiel. Anyone know what that is? It's like a hand-held xylophone. Now I just have an organ at home.

I took piano lessons as a kid, and played the cello in 4th grade. In college I played the guitar and sang war protest songs with my med-student boyfriend. I didn't like the piano, I sucked at the cello, and my fingers have trouble with the guitar strings. I sing like a frog. The boyfriend joined the Peace Corps and dropped out.
