Maiden Voyage - finally!

I was finally able to head out on my first Solo RV trip, after a week of waiting for the propane valve and GPS repairs in my new RV. I drove 269 miles in 5 hours, with 4 stops for stretching and restroom. I was less nervous than I expected, but had to stop to rest more often than I thought I would. The park I am at is rather pretty, and very well maintained. So far I am having a great time, the music show starts tomorrow afternoon, but there were a few jam sessions tonight.

Many of us learned that the mileage and hours that are comfortable to drive in a car are too much when driving an RV. Personally, if at all possible, I drive only three or four hours and as little as 200 miles in a day. I figure I average 50 miles in an hour so 200 miles is four hours. Pull in, set up, get chair out, have wine. Works for me.

time to crack a bottle of wine, now that its not so scarry you can enjoy the next one with even more enthusiasm. About 4
hours is my threshhold for driving in a day. Gives me plenty of time for leg stretch breaks and early set up to kick back and
relax.

continue with the fun! I also found that driving wasn't nearly as 'scary' as I had built it up to be.

still working on limiting the amount of time we spend driving each day. I think part of the problem is that we have a destination and we want to get there asap. looking forward to retirement so we can just pick a direction and go at our own pace with no destination in mind.

Tina, you nailed it. Our imaginations can make it scary! Deep breathe and just do it and it turns out not to be so bad! Learn our limitations and comfort level as we go. And take lots of hints from all you more experienced gals! Congrats on your maiden voyage! Have fun.

You did well driving that far in that many hours. I normally stop at every rest area to use the bathroom and then when you count stops for gas and groceries and other such, it would take me at least 7 hours to drive that distance, which is about what I drove today.

Well done! Secret is to learn your limits and adjust to them. Reduces your stress and makes the trip more enjoyable.

Remember the line "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." We often forget it's the journey, not the destination that we truly seek. So don't forget to enjoy "the getting there part."

Congrats on your first trip... I too have had to learn that I can not drive
the rig like I did my truck or even my van...i sometimes feel guilty not driving
long miles or long hrs. have to learn I am retired and not in a hurry anymore..

Thanks all for the encouragement. I would love that glass of wine, but it is prohibited at Bluegrass Festivals, maybe I should only drive half way to the festival, stop for the night, and enjoy my wine before I get to the festival. Next months trip is a 9 hour drive by car.... Guess I better plan a stop over in Northeast Texas. Any recommendations near Mt Pleasant on I30? pullthroughs are best, as I have only backed in twice, and I am without a spotter on my trips.

FancyFree, I used to play the upright bass, but not any more, not enough hand strength to make the chords. I have an autoharp my father made me, and I am trying to learn it. Unfortunately, I have health issues which make that more difficult than it should be, but I am having fun with it. I only jam when I am with folks I already know, since I don't play well yet.
