Ok ladies who were looking for Pedro a while back. This is the tour guide from the Cherokee Heritage Museum today. He's a bit young, but has good potential. (Gorgeous hair, as well.)

Do any of you know that when women were captured by some of the Indian tribes they did NOT want to return to white society? And if they were forcefully returned many of them ran away to rejoin their adoptive tribes. Think about it; in white society they were possessions of their husbands; could not own anything on their own including the clothes on their backs whereas in many of the Indian tribes they were a matriarchal society and women were respected and often were the property owners and decided who would marry who. Interesting, huh? And of course not having to wear fifty petticoats would do it for me.

Many male captives, if returned to white society, became army scouts due to their training with their Indian captives.

Too young for me. And it took me too long to get the one I have now trained properly! LOL I don't have that kind of time anymore!
Any day spent in the company of my animals is a good day.

He is probably one of my niece's students at Sequoyah Tahlequah. The Cherokee Nation sponsored high school. That museum used to be called Tsa La Gi village. I grew up about 30 miles from there and remember having a grade school field trip to the village, and visiting the Five Civilized Tribes Museum on Muskogee.

No wonder the women in my family were always 'in charge' my great-grandmothers on both sides were 1/2 Cherokee Indian. My Mother and Grandmother were definitely not inclined to take orders from men. My Dad and brothers both shared household chores and I would trade cooking duties for ironing with my brother as I did not like to iron!

We used to refer to boy toys as YB"S (young boys) when I lived in San Diego in the mid-eighties.

He told us that if a woman was unhappy with her husband and wanted to divorce him, all she had to do was bundle up his possessions and put them outside. He would have to go home to his mother, who would probably not be happy to have him back!

Sounds good to me. Children belonged to the mother's family, not the father's, and all the household goods and the home itself belonged to the mother and her family.
