My Birthday Trip

OCEAN

Out of its depths the stuff of life
Came forward and spread across the land
And from primordial soup to urban jungle
Our veins have carried its salty essence.

Roaring of surf on a windswept beach
As breakers race toward the shore
Bringing odd bits of deris to lie waiting
Discovery by treasure seeking beachcombers.

Gulls searching for tasty morsels
Left behind by the undulating water
Strut among the smaller competition
Arrogant in their self-confident thievery.

Children chase along the foamy edge
Accompanied by a large black dog
Unaware and uncaring of awesome power
Wiping out footprints as they pass.

I can imagine the place, smell the salt air, hear the waves, and feel the warm sand. As good or better than a photo.

Oh, close my eyes and I'm there! Thank you for the little mini-vacation.
