Nest pictures. My guess from experience with guest riders is that the are at least two guides if not more. At minimum one in the back and one in the front. The one in the back can watch that the riders up ahead to see that they are doing okay (and not doinging anything stupid  ). When you are guiding riders with all different riding abilities I wouldn't be surprised if they even place a guide in the middle. :) Given that trail there is not room for any oops.

Wonderful pictures!! I'm not sure if I would want to do that mule ride but I really enjoy seeing the riders and viewing the scenery you share. I also like your new beatitude "Blessed are the risk-takers, for they shall see God...maybe sooner than they thought." Was it the North Rim Lodge where Sparkle worked?

Sparkle worked at another lodge near the North Rim, but not that one.

that was the most fascinating and interesting blog I've yet to see !!!! You did such a great job of showing the trails and your camera is great. Such close ups. I was also glad to see your comment about the getting on the edge for photos :D You've had my heart skipping beats many times

So enjoyed the info on the mule ride and also seeing so much of the trail. I was there years ago , but time was short and with others, and never saw any of the things you took pictures of, Loved this blog, Liz !!

Thanks for your time posting,
CArol :)

Talking about oops...did the mule ride with my Mom and sister when I was 10. They stopped along the way at a wide place so we could turn the mules around to look out over the canyon. Mine decided to turn and keep walking :o He just about had one foot over the rim when the guide ran over, pulled me off and grabbed the reins as the mule collapsed. I rode double saddle with my Mom to the next rest stop where she waited for them to get another mule. I've been there 2 more times, including the north rim this year, but luckily, none as memorable except for the views. Love the pics, Liz!

Yikes! Sounds like a suicidal mule! You were very lucky!
Not sure I would do the mule ride. I have issues with heights  Just looking at the photos makes my feet tingle with fear!

That's me too Sheila. Not getting any younger. Can't put it off too much longer if I want to do it.
