The Feds have issued new warnings about using an ATM with your debit card. Several of the articles I read recommended that you use your credit card, not your debit card.

For those that use ATM's, this has to be scary. We still use only cash when making purchases and at the rate things are going, have a feeling this will be the only way we'll continue to do our spending. So far it has worked for us.

Hi Irmi, how do you get cash when you're traveling on the road. I don't use an ATM and never had, so getting cash was a problem. I do have a debit card from my credit union and I was able to get $100.00 in cash at Walmarts throughout the country whenever I bought groceries or other things. I would periodly load my debit card with $1000.00.

Mitch, don't use have to pay a fee or interest on a cash transaction with a credit card? That's why I wouldn't use a credit card for cash. Good topic by the way and glad to raised it.
Peggy

I've never actually used my credit card to get cash.
I just use it to pay for everything.

I had never used a debit card to get cash until this trip to Baja.

Isn't there a "fee" whether you use a debit card or a credit card (assuming you're not on your home bank's machine)?
I'm pretty Debit Card Dumb (SHUT UP, Vickie..>)

I never use my bank card as a debit card if I am at a store. I only use it at a bank ATM and there is a $200.00 a day withdrawal limit. DH and I have both used them when traveling in Europe, again only for cash as the fess are less. I would hate to have to carry a lot of cash with me and it's hard to get anyone to take a travelers check.

The only time I use an ATM is when I deposit my tips once or twice a week. I can do that at the bank tho too. Nothing is safe anymore

I never use an ATM unless it is attached to or inside a bank or credit union. I learned that after having problems in the UK with drawing out 200 GBP and having the amount deducted twice. My credit union credited me with the amount once I got home, but after that never used free-standing machines again.

I withdraw cash from grocery stores, and almost never use an ATM anyway.

Peggy, before we leave MD, I go to my bank and take enough cash with us to last the winter. We pay for our fuel on the road in cash, pay for our groceries in cash and whatever else we need is paid for in cash. I choose not to have the headaches of credit card or ATM problems. There seems to be more credit card/debit card problems than peoples RV's being broken into and or individuals being robbed. But that's just me.

Well isn't that special?!? I use my debit card when I want cash at WalMart or when I buy money orders there for birthdays, Christmas, etc. Will have to see if they will take a credit card now for that.

Otherwise, I go to the bank - either teller or ATM. Will have to get enough cash when at the bank, but not thrilled with idea of carrying a lot around.

I use a credit card for most everything - builds up those points toward cheaper airline tickets.

Thanks, Mitch for the 'warning'.

I never started using ATMs..I would have been a nervous wreck thinking someone might hold me up while doing so....I use a credit card for purchases, like the earned cashback and carry cash with me.
