Hi all,
I'm wondering if there are any Canadian full timers who spend 6 months (or less) in US? I'm wondering if you have any tips and how the border treats you etc.
Thanks!

Welcome, I can't speak for the forum girls about Canadian but at work we have a few drivers that are Canadian and they go back home when school is out for summer. I've never heard any horror stories about their back and forth border crossings.

Thanks Ava, do you mean that some people who work with you are Canadian and come down here to work? Now that would get the border going! Would you mind asking them about their experiences coming down with a rig. I am only 54 so I could raise red flags with the border.

Thanks again,
Lynn

Lynn, have you seen this blog? http://thebayfieldbunch.com/

Al & Kelly have a home in Canada & travel to the SW every year. They recently (last year or two) purchased a home in Congress AZ that they stay at when in the US. They still love boondocking during their time here as well as when traveling back & forth to Canada. I think you can search their blog & find some really helpful information as well as links to other blogs by Canadians that spend months in the US.

Thanks for the link Vicki, I am a newbie so didn't know about it. I will definitely check it out. I don't own property in Canada so that makes the border issue a little more tricky as they like to see ties to Canada.

Sheila, thanks for your post. I went to Quartzite and Yuma this weekend, I had so much fun. Are you staying on the BLM land or in a park - I keep thinking I would like the park idea better but the BLM land is so peaceful. Also do you stay in Quartzite in the summer too?

Thanks again!

My friends from Canada who come down for between 5-6 months every winter don't have any trouble. I know they have to be exceptionally careful that they don't bring anything back across the border into Canada that isn't allowed. While I can travel into Canada and get asked how much liquor I have, you will more likely be searched for it - as they want their taxes paid ... but that's about the worst of it. They've been doing this for years and years - as do thousands of your fellow Canadians.

As to your question for Sheila, she's on BLM land. And I don't know of anyone who stays there in the summer - but probably someone does. Sheila heads north to family for the summer.

I have not crossed the border since 9-11 but it is normally harder to get into the US than into Canada (go figure). Need a passport these days. There are list of prohibited items to be aware of otherwise it gets troubling (story for another day).

Go luck.
