One area is quite close to our home and the Rails to Trails path that the dogs and I hike when they can get me away from the computer, etc. I think it is all the old TV shows and the "Dancing with the Wolves" movies that have fed the brain through the years that make the western vistas appear as the recognizable backdrops....of imagination and "memories".....
Ah yes, Tina. Don't forget my faithful rendition of Chuck Connor a la Geronimo crouched high on the rocks of Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains, movie star tanned, rifle in hand, loincloth dangling, sandy blonde hair hanging around his face, knee-high moccasins doing whatever moccasins do...encasing his legs(?), "ice blue eyes" scanning the entrance to the Stronghold to prevent those pesky soldiers from creeping in. I reenacted said scene for Tina.
Though I was fully aware that Geronino was never likely to crouch on rocks where Cochise was in charge, that's the only image that came to mind when I was there.
And don't forget, ladies, when you were at Tombstone watching the gunfight? Not only did they play the theme from Tombstone, but they played the theme from Dances With Wolves. Wrong state, wrong landscape, wrong tribes/nations/affiliations, but there ya go!
