Florida Panhandle State Parks - Need Recommendation

Postby JudyJB » Tue Feb 18, 2014 5:18 pm

I am planning my trip to Florida out for next November. (I know I am a bit Type A, but it will be over Thanksgiving and Florida parks fill up fast.

I am planning on a few days at St. Andrews near Panama City, but want something for another 3-4 days a little further east. I see that a couple of possibilities are TH Stone Memorial Park and St George Island SP, both along the Gulf. There is also Edward Bell Wakulla Springs, a little further inland. I will be headed to Fort Clinch near Jacksonville, so I am cutting directly across from west to east.

Anyone been to any of these? I need electric and cell service, if possible. I also like a view and at least a partially open campsite so I can get my satellite TV fix.

Thanks!

Judy, my son lives in Tallahassee and found me a cute little county park with I think 7 full hook-up sites, and a local joint oyster bar next to it. So it's become my little secret. Ii's right on US rt. 98 across the road from Wakulla NWR. Good cell service. It will be quiet amd very pleasant in November. It's called Newport park. If you can't find the info, let me know amd when I'm on my laptop, I'll send you the link. It's run by Wakulla Co. They have a full-time host there, if that matters.

If you are coming into Florida and will be around the Destin area, Top Sail State Park is like a resort. It has full hookups, is close to the beach, they run a shuttle to the beach area.

Andrews State Park is very nice and especially if you reserve a spot on the Lagoon end. You can get near the water.

If you head on east from Panama City, you will find St. George State Park, which is on an Island. You can walk or drive down to their beach which is almost deserted, but a beautiful beach.

These are my favorite parks in the Panhandle of Florida, and the seafood is great there too.
