First step to a goal

When I began planning a year-long extended trip I realized that my little Roadtrek was not big enough and I needed to find something more suitable. Well, I am now on my way home to Oregon in a Leisure Travel Free Spirit SS. It was not easy to find and I had to go to Las Vegas to get this one. It's new but a 2013 so I got a good deal on it! I think it's perfect for my trip. It's on a Sprinter van chassis like the RT but it has a slide out, and the storage is amazing. I love it! I've been stuck in Redding, Ca for a few days waiting for better weather at the Siskayou Pass in southern Oregon. It's pretty nasty here but I spent the day reading manuals and drinking coffee. My spot in the RV park is on a hill and there is a nice view of hills and trees - and rain clouds. Lots of rain clouds! The spots are filling up with others waiting to continue north over the pass. We may be here for a few days!

I know others on this site have experienced making big decisions about RVs and trips and life changes, and I'm so happy to be one step closer to my goal.

Study hard and remember that not all those manuals are helpful..... :) Hope yours are better than some models..... :)

Can't wait for pictures (but I guess we will have to. :? ) Have fun exploring all the new possibilities.

How wonderful!
I hope you find your manuals more useful than I have found mine to be (I'm relatively new at this also and my first RV). Just in case you can't find info you need in the manuals, contact the maker of the item (not just the manufacturer of the RV). So far I've found them to be pretty helpful.

That is so awesome! I can't wait to see it!

Take your time coming home. 7" of snow here in Salem and still snowing hard. Its not supposed to let up until at least tomorrow night but staying cold so it won't go away very fast.

Judi,

I am so excited for you. I remember how I felt when I first drove away in my new RV...such a great feeling...throwing "abandonment to the wind" and just going for it. You are going to love your journey. I'm sure of it.

Now...today is an exception for an RVer. Like Laura said, here in OR we have 7" of snow...snow like I have not seen for a very long time. It IS beautiful but I had to disconnect my hose as it was frozen and after I thawed it out and tried to reconnect it, I still had no water so I will have to wait I guess for warmer days as my pipes inside seem to be frozen. For the time being, I have improvised. Fortunately I have a laundry/shower facility and bottled water. For washing dishes and flushing toilet, I am using melted snow and there is plenty of that right outside my door. As much as I love fulltiming, today I had to ask myself if I am cut out to be a "frontier woman." I'm sure this will pass.

Just be careful coming back. Check the weather. You might have to stay in CA awhile drinking lots of coffee.

Sounds like you got a winner!

Judy
