Another great post. Nice to see the different views between you & Beth. Had to google the red & black beans/seeds. By the pictures found, looks like they are poisonous:
"These seeds are poisonous, especially if ground up and eaten do not use on projects for children!! These are sold as whole seeds - they do NOT have holes in them for stringing.
These striking red & black seeds of the precatory bean are used for necklaces in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. They are sometimes called prayer beans and rosary beans and have been used for rosaries.
- or -
the raw seeds contain abrin, a ribosome inactivating protein that is one of the deadliest plant toxins known; despite their toxicity, the boiled seeds are ingested as a contraceptive and an aphrodisiac (as are the chewed roots); they are also made into a decoction for use as a diuretic, for sore throat, and for rheumatism; the powdered seeds are taken as a snuff for headache; a poultice of the leaves is said to remove freckles; a decoction of the leaves and roots is used for cough, colds, and colic) "
More lessons learned! Thanks Liz

Liz,
We can't thank you enough for letting us join in the adventure.
Your pics are fantastic! That was quite the road!!!
Reminded me of ones in Bolivia (death road, to be exact).
Glad you took a tour rather than tackling it yourselves.
Prayers for a continued safe & amazing journey.
Take care,
Catherine
