Another Blowout!

I just had another blowout and am waiting for CoachNet to send someone to change my tire. This is my second blowout in three months. Luckily it was an inside rear dually. I felt some vibration on I-15 and was looking for a place to pull over and check it, then heard a bang. I was near an exit, so I slowed down and put my blinkers on. There was way too much traffic and not enough shoulder to stop where I was, but I made it to the exit and to a 76 gas station, but they do not change tires and no space, so I moved into a dirt lot next to a hotel behind it.

Whew! I am still shaking a bit. I have Michelin tires and know that one that I bought last spring is on the recall because they called me just before I flew out to Ohio. I was going to go to a Michelin dealer in Riverside where I am going to be for four days. I wonder if they other tires were also on the recall but no one notified me because my home address is different because my son moved last year????

At least I am early getting to my campground and it is a nice day.

oh no, hope you can get it all swapped out without any troubles. Perhaps the tire store can look at the other tires and see if there is
a serial # that tells you if the others are on the recall list as well. Be safe.

Yikes! So glad you're ok.

I agree with Ava - there must be some way to find out if your other tires are on that recall list and the notice just didn't reach you. Geeze, manufacturers!

How OLD are your tires? I've had this happen - one blowout after another. It turned out my tires were like 20+ years old.
The tread looked great, but they were rotten.

All fixed now and made it to Rancho Jurupa for the night. This whole thing made me so nervous about driving. Plus, I do not like driving after dark. Route took me right through downtown Riverside!

I am going to check the numbers tomorrow and also find a Michelin dealer. My vehicle was made in fall 2011 and is a 2012 model, so the tires cannot be older than a little more than two years. I have driven cars for 54 years and never had a blowout, so this does not make sense. I already have spent $450 on two tires this year: one had a slit probably from my hitting a curb and one was my blowout in October. Now, I will have to spend another couple of hundred on a new tire. Thank heaven I always have a good spare.

I also just called CoachNet and told them that the guy they sent came in his personal car with a jack in the trunk. It was not strong enough, so he called his buddy and that guy brought a slightly bigger jack in his trunk. I told the lady that this whole setup worried me because they did not seem like a professional company. The last time they sent someone in a wrecker who used a big air-jack. I worry about someone trying to jack up my vehicle and causing damage underneath or dropping it. Like that is ALL I need.

Going to have a sandwich and a shower and get comfortable.

Just a reminder for those who are considering full-timing that you really need a fund for repairs and maintenance. Last week I spent more than $400 on my kitchen sink and a new water pump.

Remember the discussion that has been here on the forum about the button date? Your RV may be a 2010 but the tires on it could be much older. RV tires do not use up the tread, they dry out on the sides and crack. RV's use the sidewall of the tire more than tread. The sidewall is what holds the weight of any RV. If that sidewall is compromised by damage, or drying they can blow. If you carry excessive weight it can cause them to blow. That is why there is always discussion here about weight in your RV. Be sure when you get replacement tires you question them about the date. This is why you will have people tell you plan on every 5 years to replace your tires. Just keep an eye on the sidewall for any dry cracks.

So far I have never had a blowout but know that would scare you something fierce.

I had that happen one time of someone in a personal car showing up to change my tire. From the looks of him and his car I don't know that I would have gotten out to talk to him if a state policeman hadn't been waiting with me. The road side assistance services probably use some of the same people but they need to cross some of them off their list.

Did you ever get valve extenders so you could check the air in the inside tires? You can have an inside tire go flat and never know it until it blows. As much of an aggravation as my tire monitor is I like the peace of mind. Before I got that I had to check my tires every morning before I hit the road just to be sure they were ok.

Headed out now to take pictures of my four outside tires so I can look up the sizes and numbers. It took a while of relaxing this morning before I wanted to tackle this.
