I thought the history and info here was absolutely fascinating! Maybe something to go looking for when I have the time.

I saw an arrow once. Have no memory where and no one could tell me what it was. Love the history and now want to see and/ or find another.

Wow! That is really interesting! Would be cool to find one or two of them somewhere. I have never read about those arrows before. Thanks for sharing!

Many cities in America have a sign, usually on a hill, with the city name.

Amazingly, we have Amelia Earhart to thank for those.

She went on a campaign encouraging cities to put a sign like that up, or paint the name of the city on the roof
of a warehouse or similar large structure, since pilots often couldn't tell what town they were over. It's nearly impossible
to read road signs and advertising from the air, and towns look a lot alike.

I used to live in South San Francisco, which still has a prominent sign on 'sign hill', above the town, 'South San Francisco - The Industrial City'

In the SF bay area Niles has a sign too, and I'm sure there are others around.

I had heard about these arrows years ago, but never came upon one that I was aware of! What a neat tidbit of info to keep in mind when exploring the country!

It looks like there are 2 in Holtville and I've been wanting to go there for the hot springs so maybe Evie and I can do a road trip after the first of the year and go exploring. Maybe when Anita gets back in the area, she would probably enjoy it, too.
