Your dream rig

So often more experienced members of this forum encourage new members to "try on" many types of rigs before they buy. It's a grand idea that I wish I'd paid attention to. Still, there is something to be said for learning as you go and making better choices based on hard, or at least, uncomfortable lessons. So, knowing what you know now, what are the three most important features of your dream rig?

This enquiring mind wants to know.

1) Better construction techniques so things don't break so often.
2) Larger grey water tank, and smaller black water tank, plus sewer connection that I don't have to stick my whole head in compartment!
3) More practical surfaces so I can stick things on walls and add cabinets.
4) Much better insulation for camping in cold weather.

Sorry, I had to add that last one.

Must-haves …

Sitting space that is directly opposite the entertainment system (yes, I like TV at night). Most are at a right angle and you have to sit sideways to watch TV. Makes me crazy …

A pantry. I want somewhere that makes sense to keep non-perishables.

Cupboards that I can reach. Currently my trailer has got several that are out of my reach unless I get a little stepstool. I don't like that.

Apart from the basics (bed, kitchen, bath), everything else is negotiable.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else says!

A class A just like Dawn's. It has a living room that can be closed off to be a second bedroom. The kitchen/dining area is in the middle with a bedroom in the back and a bathroom that has two entrance doors. The only thing that could be better is if Pedro agreed to be the driver!

Funny, but what I considered my dream rv for the last several years, I've just had an opportunity to buy - and guess what? I'm not buying it. Guess I'm just happier in my little rv, then going up a tad and getting that Trek I've always thought would be my perfect home. So ... just a note ... your dreams are not always just what you want or need.

I just saw a smaller rv (well, still bigger than mine, but about the same configuration) that come pretty close dreamwise -

1. Inside and outside storage to meet my needs.
2. Overhead bunk if Class C - do not want the entertainment center!
3. Openness in the floorplan - in other words, although I like small, I want to feel like I'm not tied in (which is what sold me on my little 22 footer to begin with).
4. OK, I know you said top 3 - and this I'll normally be adding, but coach has to have a minimum of 2 house batteries and I'll add solar if it doesn't have it.

I could keep going lol. Was at a dealer's yesterday and after a couple minutes, they said I know more than them - to just look and let them know if I have questions. Was a good experience in that they weren't pushy - although I know they want a sale!

I'll start with saying we are pretty happy with the one we have now but if I had to do it over I'd like to add or upgrade a couple of items.

- Auto levelers (6 leg type) push a button and your level.
- Heat pump instead of the main A/C unit. That upgrade is still an option I just have to save a couple of bucks to replace the unit. In spring and fall it would be real handy not to run the furnace. I can go through 30# of propane in about 3 days when temps drop to freezing at night. Thought of a portable heater but don't know were to put it and keep the grandbaby way from it. Plus the bedrooms on the ends would get cold. (36' so probably need a couple of heaters. Bedrooms on each end.)
- would like the quality of a Mobile Suit (2x plus the cost of mine)
- Have the 3 season package but would like the 4 season package (Heartland calls it the yeti package) with tank heaters, dual pain windows, increased insulation.

Also, remember the heat is coming from the ceiling and heat rises - which means that it won't get your feet warm lol - and your electric bill - if you're paying the electric will really go up. It's good for cool temps (pretty much above 40-45) when you have the electric included in your cost, though - but can damage your compressor if used at lower temps). There are lots of heaters now that you wouldn't have to worry so much about around youngsters - and they can be trained to be careful, also.

My rig had many upgrades and adequate storage but I might like an electric awning. Mine is a pita so I rarely put it out. A scoch more headroom, in case I ever meet tall and handsome. More counter space in kitchen.

Gosh I know that there are things I've wished for but sure can't remember now....although a automatic awning would be great...as well as levelers but since I'm in a 5th wheel not sure that is available...I really like my home...although more counter space would be great...not sure where to find it at which is probably why it's not there.

Our Open Range 5th wheel has the automatic awning, stabilizers have push button control and more counter space than we had before....plus there is no "wasted space" right down to a spice cupboard and a pull out pantry (small but it does come in handy...) along with regular cupboards for food, dishes, pots & pans, etc....all this and we're just 30ft in length... also have 4 Season package with heated, inclosed tanks, etc....

Open Range only makes TT and 5ers, but if anyone is in the market check them out at http://www.openrangerv.com The only thing I would change would be to get rid of that darn oven....it's my bread box..
