In case any of you remembered I am from Roseville, CA, in Northern CA, and had news on tonight. Yes, I am 2 miles from a huge police action still in progress. Around 3 this afternoon a female ICE agent went with several Roseville Police to the door of a felon at large. A gun fight ensued. Then the bad guy was seen running through yards, and jumping fences. It is adjacent to a green belt/park/wooded area, so the hunt was on. As of about 2 hours in, they had an estimated 300 to 400 officers and every K9 in the region, from 10 agencies converged on a triangular neighborhood hunting this dude. As of now, just after 9, the helicopters are still hovering down the street about 2 miles and a spotlight is on a house they say he is holed up in. He has shot a total of 4, including the ICE agent and 3 Roseville PD officers. All are expected to live, fortunately. Gun shots every so often. Expect by 11 news they will either have him in custody or he will be shot. What a mess for that small quiet older neighborhood. Police have had to go in and evacuate in SWAT armored vehicles some families close to the house he is holed up in. What a start to the weekend.
On the other hand, I accompanied my older son to his elementary school's 50th anniversary tonight. He finished sixth grade there in June of 93 and would you believe 5 of his 7 teachers were there and recognized us? Not sure if it's a good thing he was that well known. LOL
Have a good weekend all.

how scary that would be!!! just as scary as pondering a 50th anniversary dating from 93 when I have kids born in 80 and 84 and they aren't 50
hope all is well there and they get their man

It was the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the school. My children started there in the schools 23rd year, and now the school is 50.
The standoff is still in progress as far as we know, and it's now over 10th hour.

Hope all is resolved in the neighborhood!! Yes, teachers remember their students. Although they are an ever reminder that the clock marches on. I'll never forget when one of my former students came up to me at the State Science fair and was so proud that his daughter made it to the state level competition!! How'd that happen

Velda, scary you had all that police activity right in your neighborhood. Having the police helicopters hovering overhead and the spotlights is one thing. Gunshots is definitely another. Hope they got the guy and everything is safe again. The school anniversary sounded fun. The real question is did your son recognize any of his classmates?

Sometime after midnight they convinced the bad guy it was better to come out than die in a hail of gunfire. I am sure his Mom, who was nearby, is as relieved as the rest of us are. The four injured officers will all recover though one remains in serious condition.
My Mom was a teacher for 40 years and I still have some mementoes and cards brought to her when her former kindergarten students graduated high school and college. You can imagine how touched I was when recently on the hometown Facebook page called You know you!re from Tracy if........ Someone posted a picture of herself in her kindergarten class picture along with praise for the teacher and the teacher was my Mom in the 50's.
