Adventures close to home

While I was running errands today I noticed a few vendor tents on one of the main side streets on Lebanon. Later as I was walking to check out another downtown store I recognized what all the attention was about. It was the Holiday Dog Costume contest..... Not very well attended due to the lack of publicity and the rainy damp weather. And almost over by the time I wandered past but I caught a few pictures. :)

This one was a cowgirl and her pony...

Image

Then there was the maid and her mop bucket....

Image

Yes that is a Puli in there. She said he had never actually been asked to ride around in a bucket before but with persuasion finally did as asked....

Image

When I got home this afternoon Dennis had finished widening the temporary ramp that the dogs need to use until Monday when the guys come back to finish putting in the railings and the stairs. With some left over fencing and the ramp they will make it until Monday.

Image

Audrey figured it out first and Uncle Stuart soon was running up and down the ramp with her....

Image

Some dogs just barked from the bottom. Apparently they hadn't read that recent article about learning by imitation.

Image

"Aw, do we really have to tell them the secret?" woofs Stuart.

Image

Stuart wouldn't tell Blondie or Remi the secret but they both got it after I lead them up and down a couple of times by the collar. Okay, the jury is still out on Remi. I saw Blondie complete a pass on her own, Remi I'm still not sure of....

And everything is wet and muddy outside. I will need to wait until the last moment to bath Audrey if she is going to remain clean for her puppy match tomorrow.....

OMGosh - the mop lady cracked me up.
Do you know if she won?

Can't wait to see your deck all finished.

I love the wolfhound! I always wanted to ride my dogs when I was a small child. In fact, I broke a tooth once while trying that . . .

I,too, love the Puli mop.

And I remember my past dog Moxie teaching every dog who visited our house how to use a dog door. We never had to help - and she sometimes would get frustrated, but kept at it until they did it. Was fun to watch.

I came upon the award ceremony after it had started so I couldn't tell who had won what...they had different categories...that much I figured out. For example, scariest, dog and handler team, two dog team, etc.....

There are now four dogs in the pack here. The fourth dog is Blondie (the shaved down, orange roan English Cocker)...she is 11 yrs old and is Stuart's mom and Audrey's Grandma...and has not traveled with me in years once I figured out that she had trained my husband that he needed to take her along on all his errands (temperatures permitting) i.e., trips for coffee, runs to Home Depot, stops to see his potter friends...... she definitely has his number and much prefers being the queen of the house over being part of the traveling pack.

When I am traveling for a month or more I have a friend that will stop by the house pick her up, bath and groom her and return her to the house all clean for my husband. And I don't have to worry about her needing attention. My husband has a list of back up dog support on the board in case he needs help.

That mop bucket is funny. How in the world does someone groom a dog like that?

The Puli and the Kommodores (in show coat) both have the long dreadlocks. Great effort is taken to keep the coats clean. IF and when they get washed, it takes forever to dry. I knew a 4-H Junior Handler that showed a Puli in AKC Juniors. They can be quite smelly and get sprayed with deodorizer between baths, etc.

What is even more amazing is to realize that both these breeds are in the herding group and were/are herding dogs. Can you imagine their coats as they live out protecting the herd? :?

Love the mop bucket dog but sure would not want to have to groom it.

Deck is looking good. Know you and the pups are excited about all the progress.
