Okay, the results are in...not perfect, but good...

Early stage 2b (out of 0-4) cancer. No additional cancer found in any of the removed breast tissue. However, of 5 lymph nodes removed, cancer was found in 2 of them. Based on that, additional lymph nodes MAY NOT need to be removed at a later date.

Next step is oncologist appointment on October 7. Additional treatment may require some form of chemotherapy and/or radiation. Those decisions will be mine to make after learning more...

From a surgical standpoint, everything went perfectly. Tubes are gone (OUCH!). Bandages removed. No sign of infection. Phyllie and Vickie are thankful I can now shower. Also, Phyllie and Vickie have not stopped with either boobie jokes or short jokes. They are my mean friends.

Mitch - I'm sure you can give it back to them!! You take care and be a good patient. Is the pain subsiding any at all? If you decide on treatment, when would that start?

Ah, the drain tubes....seems to be one of the most painful parts of post surgery :(

The time until you see the oncologist will give you a chance to heal some more and gain some strength back.
The choice of treatment if necessary, will be up to you and the Dr. when the time comes.

In the meanwhile, enjoy your angles and HE_ _ yes! Fight back if you're up to it!!

Very good news!

Chemo is not supposed to be as bad as it used to be, although it is still not fun. My son had it a couple of years ago for his non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and he would have one really bad week out of three, but managed to work the entire 6 months except for two weeks he spent in the hospital because of low white cell count.

You did notice the Mimosas??? Notice the lightest colored one (center)...that would be mine (WAY less orange juice...I'm diabetic, after all!). More room for champagne.

And it wasn't close to 5:00 in TN...I have a buzz. Ain't had a buzz in I can't tell you when...

Here is how bad it is - ME, The Hostess of The Blue Marlin, said to my CareAngels (love that phrase, Sharon), "I really don't give a shit what you eat tonight. I'm going to continue drinking Mimosas...

Oh, my bad. So bad.

The worst part today is that, without the monster boobies holding it down, my belly fat is jiggling just like Santa Claus. What an unusual feeling and it will take some getting used to... :)

That's such good news Mitch. I know chemo won't be good all the time if that's what you'll end up having, but you're a tough woman. I so admire your spirit. I can't believe how close you're tracking with my best friend whom I've known since we went to 8th grade, high school, and college together. She didn't have a mastectomy but rather a lumpectomy with 6 (I think) lymph nodes removed. The diagnosis is stage 3 and they found it in 4 of the 6 nodes. They're going to do some kind of scan of her brain, another of her heart, and a full-body scan to see if it's anywhere else. She has to wait 'til Oct. 3 for the results. The waiting they make patients go through is torture. I sure wish she had your attitude and fighting spirit. I'm afraid her negative view of it all will work to her detriment. If you have any suggestions I can give her I'd love to hear them.

In the meantime, kept up the good work. I'm so happy you have no more surgery coming. Sounds like Phyllie and Vicki are going to have their hands full. HUGS!!!

YAHOO!!!!! WONDERFUL news! It sounds as if some chemo and/or some radiation will take care of whatever cells might have escaped those gone-for-good boobs, and that you will be able to party hearty before you know it! Early stage two is a piece of cake nowadays! (For those curing it, that is....for those fighting it, maybe not cheese cake, but perhaps a good yellow cake!) I love this upbeat update! And I am celebrating with you by having a couple of hard ciders make by Angry Orchard----so yummy! I can breathe a huge sigh of relief now, as I am sure you can, too! And all your angels that are caring for you and preparing your mimosas! I love that shirt----is that a real picture of one you are wearing? If not, you need to get one for sure.

WHEW! What a long and arduous week this has been for us all while playing the danged waiting game! Sleep well tonight, and rest easy that all infection is gone, and with the knowledge that you are healing as you should! Cruppers up!
