Drove to Crater Lake today and saw this sign:

What I really liked was the addition of a diagram in case you did not know what falling off a cliff was.

It's been 25 years since we went to the Grand Canyon and I couldn't get over what some of the tourists were doing. I never heard a ranger tell them anything. Most palaces you go they tell you not to go here and don't touch that. I saw people(idiots) climbing over what fences there were to get closer to the edge. There was one women that should have been arrested for child endangerment. I wonder if things have changed any since now there are so many things you can't do.

As dumb as the signs seem, I have to agree with Martha; people do absolutely stupid things. Every (every!)) year one or two folks get washed over one of the waterfalls in Yosemite. (And then there are the park rangers who get called out to the rescues, risking their own lives). Sadly there is just no way to keep some people safe.

Even with graphic warnings, there is just no cure for stupid.

About 20 years ago at Grand Canyon, I had to leave a couple of viewing areas. At that time they had only railings, and no mesh wire. Some parents were letting very small children swing on the railings while they were chatting and taking photos. I could not stand to watch.

While on the QE2 ocean liner a few years ago, I chuckled at the signs telling people not to sit on the railings. This was in the middle of the North Atlantic, like about where the Titanic went down.

I'm sure in a few years they'll have to put up a sign, saying reading signs while walking may cause you to stumble & fall!

   Yep, definitely stupid, but then, wasn't it Beth who read a book about the people the Rangers have to keep rescuing cause they do stupid things.

I have seen some stupid signs too. This would be a good continuing thread, see which are the dumbest! Of course as some have said there are some people who need satupid signs! This isn't exactly a sign, but I remember when we installed a new smooth top range the instructions said "Do not place baby on stove.........."
