A Lazy Afternoon

Postby bluepinecones » Mon Sep 16, 2013 9:58 pm

So glad I decided to make it a short drive day and checked in here when I did. The park filled up quickly this afternoon. Did I mention, they also have free Internet - the best I've had on this trip.
Nicky and I have taken several short walks. One thing I regret is not being able to get him enough exercise or find a place to let him run.
After the wind subsided, we enjoyed sitting outside. We even had dinner at the picnic table.
Nicky's excitement for the afternoon was provided by a very bold cat who had the nerve to come drink from his water bowl. He barked at it but the cat stood its ground and they went into a stare down for a good half hour

I mostly watched the construction on bridge

See the flame at bottom of bridge. I thought they were welding. Silly me assumed the bridge was being repaired. Not so, that is a blow torch cutting beam. Camp host says the bridge is to be blown up on Thursday. :o It is a long way to another bridge but now not so sure I want to cross it.
There was a lot of barge traffic in both directions. This one was too big to show all of it

Another one going the other way

and a smaller one

Several more but figured that was enough to give you a feel for how heavy the traffic is here. Those were taken over just a two hour period.

It is almost 11:00 and I should be thinking about going to bed so not too late getting started tomorrow.

Noticed the moon is almost full again. Have I really been gone so long that the moon is about to complete another cycle? Have noted the day light hours have become much shorter lately. Don't think I'm quite ready for fall yet.

looks like you made a nice stop...what state are you in and what river? I'm with you not sure I'd want to cross the bridge.
Have a nice drive tomorrow.

What a peaceful place. That's what I love about this lifestyle. An endless supply of wonderful, peaceful spots along the way. Good luck crossing that bridge and stay safe.

Thanks for the sharing your journey with us, Sarah. Love the pics - even the bridge. I'd go across it - just a few minutes of anxiety & then it's over. :D
Enjoy the rest of your journey - can't wait to see where it takes you next.

How dare that cat drink from Nicky's bowl! Toby had a stare down with a bunny this morning, they were only about 4' apart! I had a good hold on his leash though but when the bunny bolted he didn't try to chase it. So they are already taking that bridge apart for demolition on Thursday but still allowing traffic.... :o Thanks for the pictures. Have a safe journey home.

Seems you are also learning the art of traveling solo and enjoying the down time and the ability to just sit and take in the sounds and sights. (As long as that don't mean a bunch of large loose camp ground dogs....) Travel safe but take your time, the leaves in the driveway will still be there.....

What a great spot, demolition on Thurs may be why the campground filled up. That
would make a great video. How long you planning to hang out in that lovely spot?

Which RV park? Might be one to add to my 'whenever' list.

Nikki looks like a cousin to Molly when her hair is log (except she's tan & black)- soooooo cute.
