Now I smell like vinegar

Yep, Tyler was barking at something, so we went out to see what it was. Tyler was barking at a black kitty was hanging onto the cloth cover on my Mustang. Then I noticed the little white strip on the black kitty. Whoops! Too late. Tyler was behind me. I grabbed his collar and shoved him in the house. However, I got sprayed on my backside from the waist down. DH says to scrub with vinegar and water. So, now I smell like vinegar!! Don't want to sleep in RED. DH doesn't want me in our bedroom. So upstairs I go!! DH was angry that, "I was so stupid to go outside. Just turn on all the lights and the critter will leave?" Well !! Live and learn....the hard way.

Aww, guess we'll just call you stinky. :D
Seriously, sorry you got sprayed. Did any get on Tyler? Just tell DH he can go sleep in Red & you can have the bedroom!

Now, now, now.....the voice of experience here on the subject of being sprayed by a skunk.... ;) ....(not me, but 2 dogs we had years ago..) Send the DH to the store to get the douche stuff that you mix...get enough to wash your body, hair, etc.....follow directions on packaging for normal use....it should work in one washing, but personally, I'd do it twice..... ;) There's no saving your clothes you had on....just put them in a plastic bag and throw them in the trash....or burn them....A local Vet where we are right now told us about the douche' and it has worked every time....

Oh Red, I sympathize with you as I was sprayed when a teenager. I decided to use my mother's bath oil to help cover the smell. For days I smelled of skunk and Blue Fox. With daily baths it all finally wore off, but it was awful in the interim. I don't know if vinegar is a solution, but I don't recommend bath oil. :P

So sorry (giggle, giggle). I'd use Lori's advise except I live in a small town and the clerk at the store would wonder (and tell everyone) that I bought boxes and boxes of douche. Don't know what would be worse - smelling bad so everyone would shy away from me or everyone looking at me and wondering what I needed all that douche for.

Just know between giggles at some of the visuals that are being shared here....we do feel for your olfactory discomfort......(I couldn't figure out if bad smells are painful...but discomfort I was sure about having had dogs that have needed cleansing.... )

ps...you can always drive to the next town....isn't that what all the young men did when they knew the clerks at the local drug store and needed protection....

Here are a couple suggestions I found on line...

Orange, Lemon or Tomato Bath

If you have been sprayed by a skunk, fruit with a lot of acidity is the perhaps the best remedy to help remove the smell from your body. Throw five oranges into a blender with a couple drops of liquid soap. Use the pulpy liquid as you would use regular shower gel. This same technique also applies to lemon. Adding two cans of tomato paste to your bath water will also help.

Baking Soda Solution

If your fruit bath does not do the trick, try this solution made from baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. Mix together one quart of hydrogen peroxide, one quarter cup baking soda and a few splashes of liquid dish soap. Use this mixture instead of shower gel

This is similar to rx posted earlier for dogs. Used it this AM and seems to be working :P Took a sedative and slept well. Don't know how DH did.

Wouldn't mind using the other solution. However, the suggestion of sending DH to get it is funnier than you can imagine.

Thank you for all you humor and advice.

When my German Shepherd Dog got sprayed by a young skunk (he killed it; guess he thought anything that smelled that bad must be dangerous as he would let wild rabbits eat out of his dish and drink his water) I sprayed him with vinegar and that got rid of 90% of the smell. Took a couple more times to get him back to normal.
