I know! I've had my trailer for only a few weeks and I'm already thinking about changing out some of the decor. In the bedroom I would really like to use this beautiful, tropical, collage-type bed spread but it clashes with the cornice in the bedroom. Pretty much EVERYTHING clashes with the cornice unless the bedspread is a solid color. Has anyone recovered their cornice? Is it worth all the effort?

I'm also eyeballing the kitchen's fake backsplash. Would really like to get some tin or tile or something up there in the future.

Let me answer the last question first. I used this plastic tile from Home Depot that looks like tin panels - well mine is more modern.



You can take the cornices off and either recover them or remove them completely. I had to take my cornice off of the window below the A/C cabinet and have never put it back up. You may have to be a contortionist to get to the fasteners - mine were in there with screws and I had to use an offset screwdriver.

No, but I would love to know how yours works out.

Mine is a chocolate brown, and we were all talking on this forum a while ago about how the RV designers make everything a shade of brown, which is enough to drive you crazy. Something may be a light brown or a dark brown or a gold brown, or even a beige, but it is still all brown.

And I looked under mine to find the screws. It would be really a pain to remove them. Might do it someday, though because would like to add some real color.

My friend who got a new TT this past spring is going to do hers over as she doesn't like the pattern either. She tells me they are easy to do. In her's and my case, it's a matter of removing the blinds first to get at the screws holding the cornice board in. After that it just taking off the material and putting new on. You can use Velcro to hold the new material in place in the back before you put it back up. I may do mine eventually too.

Maggie, neat idea on the backsplash. I plan to do do that too, but will look and see what's out. Vinyl stick on tile squares would work for that too.

We have put small glass tiles in the kitchen area of a couple of RV. Here is the link to one http://www.womenrv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2438 they are easy to put up and we don't use grout that would crack - we use Power Grab it flexes.

I started removing the box valances in my fifthwheel before it went into storage. It was tough at first, but after I figured out to take
the blinds off first, it got easier. I will continue with that project when the rv comes out of storage.

Well, here's a goofy question (and I can't go look because I'm far too lazy this morning to walk over to the trailer) - can you get to it from the outside, through the window?

In my case no, because the windows don't open enough or in the case of one, it's the emergency window that opens to the outside.

I took mine off meaning to put curtains up haven't done that yet but as I recall wasn't hard just a matter of finding the screws and didn't take
the blinds down either...

I've been wanting to do this for a long time even though tGM hates it when I want to "decorate" Mine r a pain in the ... Because the screws r hard to get to and the shades r attached to the top of the cornice and a block of wood which is attached to the bottom of the cabinets and the sides of the windows. Thought I might try fabric paint or just listen to tGM mumble two of my shades r broken and I haven't replaced them yet because of this ridiculous setup. Talk about overkill. carold

My daughter does custom window treatments. Cornices usually sit on top of an L bracket and are screwed up thru the bracket (from under the cornice) into the top of the cornice.

Joan - that's not necessarily true of trailer cornices. Mine are screwed into the wall or cabinet.
