Why It is Important to Have Annual Doctor Appointments

We always plan our annual health appointments with the VA every May....Both of us have had minor issues, such as cholesterol, GERD, and Ernie's High Blood Pressure....Well, this year the results of my blood work has me running more tests than I care to have, but it is necessary....my white blood count was high and since then I've been poked, scanned, ultra sounded, and lots of blood work....the results have indicated a cyst on my right ovary, another on my right kidney, and yet another at the back/right of my thyroid....(what's up with it all being on my right side... ) Because I felt that the VA was dragging their feet plus wanting to send me to another VA hospital just for the GYN issue, I took it out of their hands and have enlisted the help of my sister, Barb, the nurse, and have "come home" to get this all cleared up....

Saw a GYN Oncologist yesterday....the best in western NY and north-west PA, who feels the cyst on the ovary is 90% benign, but doesn't want to risk the other 10%, so I am scheduled for surgery for the removal of the right ovary and the left ovary on August 8th..(had the uterus removed years ago)....He also has me an appointment with a kidney dr. this coming Friday to determine what to do with the cyst on the kidney.....As he stated, while he has an incision already for the ovaries, the kidney dr. can do what she needs to do at the same time...

(Ernie says "what does a 60 yr. old woman need with ovaries anyhow....  ) He's my heart, my best friend, my strength, and keeps me laughing thru all this...Although, he's worried, but tries to hide it...

Today I will call on an appointment for the thyroid issue with a goal of being done with all of this by September sometime...

I am feeling well and the dr. complimented me yesterday on my general good health....so I have faith that all will turn out well....all tests so far have indicated that we have caught this early, too....

I wanted to let you all know because I may not be posting much for awhile, but promise to keep you all posted on things...

Healthy thoughts and prayers are welcomed and thank you all in advance for being here for me....I'm sure I'll be venting, whining, crying, etc, in coming days, so be patient with me.

Thanks for listening and I'll keep you posted....

(and now I realize I'm repeating myself, so I'll stop for now... ;) )

Prayers that everything is benign! Prayers for peace for you and for strength for Ernie! It's better to be 100% sure than to be 90%. And I'm with you on who needs those things after a certain age anyway!!!

And I think your title says it all. Sort of another reminder along that discussion we had a few weeks ago. Just because we don't get the test and/or go to the doctor for check ups doesn't mean bad things can't happen. It is so much better to know and face the issues and work through them while they are work throughable! Keep your "jello" around close. You will be back to making more travel plans in the near future and you want to be ready! :)

Lori, that's a bummer. Sorry to hear about all this. At least you got to some doctors and they found them early and it can all be taken care of relatively soon. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Believe me, we would have noticed if we saw anything other than your upbeat encouraging words.

August 8 is on my calendar now. Please show Ernie how to let us know you're done with surgery and back to your smiling, if groggy, self.
