My Sad and Happy story

Well, the second shake-down trip in my new Thor ACE 27.1 was very enlightening. The more time I spent in it, the more I disliked it. During a rainy day at Silvercove Resort I decided to make a list of what I liked and disliked. I came up with 2 pages of dislikes and 5 items I did like.
After talking it over with Karen-K1 (OregonLuvr) and Laura (Cougarfan), I decided it was just going to get worse; I could spend more money trying to make the handling acceptable and changing some of the dislikes, and I still would have something I didn’t like. All I would be doing was delaying getting rid of it and loosing even more money. Life’s too short to put up with cheap, flimsy, junk. (Sunset RV in Fife, WA is still slime, but that’s a story for another time.)

I wound up trading it in on a Winnebago Vista 27N. So far I love the Winne. (I picked it up on June 29) I just finished putting everything away in it. Tons of room, half the storage is empty. I’m impressed with the features, quality, and handling. I bought it from Poulsbo RV in Kent. I had heard both good and bad about them, but they treated me well. They gave me a good price for my trade (the ACE), and a fair price for the Winne. No pressure, straight forward deal. Everybody at the dealer’s was pleasant and competent – How’s that for a change.

I’m going on my first shakedown trip on the 8th for four nights at Screaming Eagle Campground in Ocean City, WA. If any of you are in the area, stop on by and say hello. Love to meet you. Look for a white Winnebago with tan and metallic orange colored trim and a blue Honda CRV.

K2, it's really a good story. You learned quickly that the Thor wasn't for you - and you made the switch - and found something you liked, and a dealer that worked much better with you. Looking forward to finally meeting you this fall.

Karen, I just traded in my old Roadtrek for a new model and was wondering where I should go for the trial run before heading off on a long trip. If no family or other issues arise I just might end up there!

It took me two years to learn enough to know I could do better and take the trade in plunge. I always was a slow learner. I agree with you. Life is getting shorter. Don't settle when it isn't necessary.

Congratulations on your new Winnie and glad you made the change and found something that fits you better. We went through a similar adventure. Last Oct we bought a 5th wheel. After a few short trips and one long one DH had a long list in the negative column. So just 4 months latter, in Feb, we traded it in for a class A. DH much happier and I have to admit, after a few trips, I hat to say that I like it a lot as well
