I've been doing a lot of thinking after reading many posts about some of you being full timers. I would like to hear from you gals who have dogs and have to leave them alone from time to time. I have a wire kennel for Butch, but I have never left him alone in the camper. I just avoid going anywhere that he can't go. If I have to pick up supplies, I leave him in the TV with the air on. I have remote start so I turn the air on without the keys in it. Looking forward to your replies.

I traveled with a dog and a cat. I never left them in the motor home with the air on as one would not know if the electricity at the pedestal would go off. I took the dog with me in the car which I towed. Left the cat with the windows open. If it was too hot for that, I did not go! Those fur babies come first! lyn

It doesn't take long to get really hot in a camper, if you lose power. I would not leave them unless it is cool outside.
Having said that, I'm not sure what you would do when you have to run out. I'm sure others on the forum will have good advise.
Good luck!!

A lot depends upon your unit and the insulation it may have. Also where you plan to camp...as in what sort of temperatures you will be experiencing. I haven't traveled out west but in the summer in Ohio and the east I have felt comfortable leaving the "boys" hanging out in their crates in the rig. Most of the time I can just leave the fantastic fan on and the rig remains comfortable. The dogs and I don't have AC at home either but we sure like our fans! There have been times that I have been known to leave the air on with the fan on just in case the AC should go out. It takes a lot more to heat up the RV than it does a car. Especially with all the curtains closed and sun screens across the front windows.....

ok, I did live in my fifthwheel for 4 years at a full hookup retirement park and in the heat of arizona, I only came home to
a tripped circuit breaker a couple times. Yes, my oldest dog was in distress and I had to cool him down quickly. Other than
that in the dead of summer the rest of the year was just the fans and circulating the air. With the insulation and curtains
shut it did not heat up like a car. I prefer to go places with my dogs but sometimes you just can't.

Moved this to the general room ...
Peaches spends lots of time in the rv without me. Today I left just before 10 am and got home after 8 pm. She's fine. Open windows and roof vents as necessary. You have to learn your rig and how well air circulates with the windows/vents open.
