A couple of days ago we rode up Mount Charleston to see the snow, but were a day late - it had already mostly melted. A couple of pictures of the drive. We did find some snow at 7650 feet. I love the desert with the Joshua Trees.

Last night we drove The Strip - that is an experience like no other in the world. It was a beautiful night 68 degrees on the strip ( 59 degrees off it - those lights up off a lot of heat.) We had the windows down so we could get the full experience of sights and sounds and smells. Exhaust, steak cooking, perfume etc. Also sounds - babble of many languages, music from hip hop to classical, laughter and anger. Sights - well can't describe - Eiffle Tower, Lions, Towers, castles, construction, pirate ships, volcanos, New York, Venice, M & Ms even McDonalds sign are bling. Just some of the pictures I took.

I enjoyed your tour of the Strip so much!! Probably the only one I will ever have. I love lights. Showing the lines of cars going with you down the Strip add to the feeling that I was actually with you. I had no idea there was so much imagination in the buildings there. It was wonderful, thank you so much. I will probably come back to this post many more times. The pic of the Joshua trees and mountain background is terrific too. I dwelled on that one a long time, then comes the strip, a great post, thanks Carol

I've enjoyed all of your post so much

Las Vegas at night is absolutely mind blowing. There are pirate ships fighting, water dancing, volcanos erupting. The people walking down the sidewalks, thousands of them, can walk faster than the traffic is moving.
Las Vegas during the day is kind of tacky. It is an incredible town to visit at least once. No need to gamble - just see the sights.
Will post some pictures of daytime and inside some of the casinos later.
Added more about driving the strip at night on my blog. http://asirimarco.spaces.live.com Hum weird - can't get into the blog, their servers must be down - will keep trying ....

A few years ago my cousin visited LV and sent me pictures of "the strip". In her shots it looked like an extra wide sidewalk or what use to be a two laned street, and it was domed in some kind of mesh that they used as a screen to show moving colored lights and moving figures etc. Quite wild to walk under. It was very elaborate. When I visited LV I never came across anything like it. Just most of the pictures and events you posted.

What she sent you pictures of was downtown Las Vegas - Fremont Street Experience - the old downtown Vegas has been cleaned up and made into a walking area under a huge arched cover. At night there are animated music shows on the cover. Another thing that has to be seen - can't be described. They mayor of Vegas has really improved that area - as in cleaned it up. Haven't gone down there yet. That is for sure a night time experience not a day time thing.

I love visiting Las Vegas for all the reasons you're saying. My sis and bil had no desire to ever go to Vegas. Then, one year, don't know why, she went to Vegas with me. My bil said, nope, wasn't going. Well, I told my sis, you do not have to gamble - and we will pass all the time. During the day we visited the inside of the casinos - some of them inside are amazing. Then, at night, we walked down the strip and saw all the outside shows, etc. We also went to a couple real shows in the casinos. And one night we went down to see Fremont Street (yep, amazing how they cleaned up downtown and what that has done - that was a "dangerous" area at night when I first was visiting Vegas).

Well, guess what - the next year she and my bil went to Vegas - cuz she convinced him he had to see it. And they've gone back once since.

I, too, say Vegas is a place everyone should see once, and take a few days/nights to do so. See the volcanos erupt and pirates fight, etc. Oh, and when New York, New York was first built, I like it - then the next time I was there, I didn't like how they changed it - then they changed it again, and I think some of what they did was amazing. Lots of those places, you can see things that look and feel like the real things.

There really is nothing else like it. Thanks for sharing the pictures - it's been a few years since I was there - like you, I always am amazed but how much new there is in just that short period of time!

Beautiful pictures....I would prefer the Joshua trees and snow on the mountain scenes to the city lights....those are the places I seek out.
