And where are you? I am sitting on my balcony having coffee, then off to work.

Good morning Donna. When I was traveling for five months I had an arrangement with my son where I called him on Saturdays at noon, his time. It worked out fine. Occasionally I would send a photo of where I was camping via my cell phone to various friends. Sometimes I would just pick up the phone and call my sister or a friend and talk.
You are right in that people are too busy with their own lives to worry about you; out on the road and having adventures instead of sitting at home. However, they still do care about you; as do we on the Forum.
Enjoy today. Peggy

I make darn sure my kids know where I am by either emailing them, calling them, giving them my itinerary (as I will on my trip home this time) and however else I can keep in contact-----whether they care, or not!

I was single for over 20 years and seldom let anyone know where I was and I traveled cross country many times. I realized when I was recently at Dale Hollow I hadn't left any information about exactly where I would be with DH. I think with cell phones, email etc. it still doesn't seem that important to tell anyone where I am or where I am going.

Did the article say how they knew where each other was? Twins have amazing 'connections' sometimes.

I try to let at least one person know where I'm going and basically a rough itinerary, especially if I'm traveling solo. Always have, always will.

I had a cousin pass away a few years ago and he lay in the morgue for 2 weeks while efforts were made to contact my uncle (his listed next-of-kin), who was out of the country. Once they finally got a hold of the company my uncle owned, it still took a few days to track him down. We had a basic idea of where he was, and it still took several of us lots of internet time to determine how to get a hold of him.

It doesn't do much good to tell my DH when I'm leaving or where I'm going because he never remembers. Even writing it on the calendar doesn't do much good. If I say I have a trip planed he will ask me everyday when I'm leaving. My boys worry about me when I'm on the road. I get a laugh about them worrying about me meeting my internet friends. ;)

I usually send my best friend and my son an email of where I'm going. I seldom travel alone anymore so someone knows where I am. When I was in my 20's I use to take off just me and a baby at any time of the day or night. I didn't think anything about being on the road alone. I'm not that crazy anymore.

Mitch and I keep track of each other using Google Latitude.

There is another app like this, but I can't remember what it's called.

I don't think my daughter cares where I am. Her family is more important. The last trip I gave her an itinerary both hard copy and online and when I talked to her she would ask me where I was. Apparently hadn't bothered to look at either

My sister (and usually) my daughter know where I am, or at least where I am headed when on long trips. I think everyone needs a check-in buddy. :).

(Totally understand about your daughter Sandi. It's kinda like that with mine too, but I figure she could reconstruct to find me if she needed too).

In past couple of years, as we've gotten older and I live up away from everyone my sis calls almost every evening, during the week. When I'm on the road she does this too. So she knows about where I am. If. I'm at a GTG she doesn't call usually until she thinks it's over. If I have company she doesn't call, but will check in time to see if someone is still there. My kids have such busy lives, and they just think MOM's fine she always is . Theydont even know of my awning episode. I have traveled many years and no one had any idea where or when I was on the road. Most of the time my traveling has been alone, no choice, as I like to take off and never a definite time to head home, not many like that. It is wise these days for someone to have some idea where you are.

Wishing you all safe travels,

CArol :)

I don't think my daughter cares where I am either. Her family & her friends are more important. I know she is very close with her Mother in law that lives cross country...and here I am north of her (she lives in southern CA ) & never hear from her. Now my other daughter that recently passed away, always wanted to know exactly where I was & stayed in touch daily. Sure miss her & have come to believe that ache will always be there.....My two sons are also busy with friends, job demands, family etc., so not too involved with my travels.....and like so many others, I travel solo....which is pretty lonely at times....But that Google ap looks really interesting....I'd use it, but the way things are, I don't need it.....(Sorry.....having my own little pity party right now).... :? But I'll get over it soon as I have that second cup of coffee....... ;)

I had to chuckle. Since George died, no one cares where I am, either.
Well, Abby cares, as long as she's with me!
