MARVAC Facebook Poll Results

MARVAC (Michigan Association of Recreational Vehicles and Campgrounds) recently posted the results of several Facebook polls they they conducted. i don't know how many people answered the questions or the details of the poll, but the results were posted in a Michigan RV and Camping Guide. I found it interesting reading:

Poll # 1: What type of RV do you own?
54% Travel Trailer
16% Fifth Wheel Trailer
12% Motorhome
11% Popup Tent Trailer
7% Do not own yet

Poll #2: What's you number one sport/activity when camping?
30% hiking
25% Relaxing
20% Sightseeing
15% Fishing
10% Biking
5% Paddlesports, Boating, Reading

Poll #3: What's your favorite region to visit? (Michigan Regions)
50% Northwest Michigan
19% Northeast Michigan
14% Upper Peninsula
11% Southwestern Michigan
6% Southeastern Michigan

Poll #4: What's most important to you when selecting a campground?
34% Water IThey prefer to camp near beaches, lakes or rivers)
23% Nearby (They like to get away without driving too far from home)
20% Location (They use the campground as a home base for day-trips or sightseeing)
14% Nature (They like to camp in the woods, with hiking trails or other natural features)
6% Amenities (They prefer a resort-style campground with amenities and activities for their kids)
3% Quiet (They enjoy a peaceful outof the way campground)

I'll bet, except for #3, that it applies to almost any place in the US...

Interesting, Sue.

Might also explain why most RV dealers have so many towable type vehicles, but am a bit surprised that MH number is so low (only 12%).

Maybe the vehicle depends on where you live and what you do for a living. Here in Indiana almost every one has a pick up or SUV 4x4 because of jobs - so it would make sense to just have to get a TT or 5th wheel. In southern California and Nevada you very seldom see lots of 5th wheels or TT for sale. Not a lot of farming around there.

Good point. It is easier to rationalize a trailer if you already have a pickup truck for farming or other work. If you have to buy both, you might as well buy a motorhome because the cost is more comparable: MH = pickup + TT.

Also, when I was MH shopping, several dealers told me the cost of inventorying TT was much lower than MHs so they had many more of trailers. They did not like to keep too many motorhomes in stock because of expense and also because they needed faster turnover on them to make a profit.
