Got my rig back today, after driving from Cleveland to the factory service center in Decatur, IN. I had had several spongy spots on my floor in front of my couch, which is on the same slide as the kitchen. They had originally hinted that maybe I had not checked the roof caulking and seals and that had caused a water leak that went down the walls, hence my not noticing any leaks in the ceiling.

WELL!!! It turns out the cause was a broken weld in the frame!!! Ha!

They had the vehicle for 8 days and say they spent 200 man-hours taking out both slides, removing the linoleum, strengthening the weld area, replacing plywood, installing new linoleum, and putting everything back together.

I drove north into Michigan after dropping off the rental car and picking up the motorhome. I am in Warren Dunes State park, so I drove over 370 miles today. Since I had to pack up the entire kitchen, I have a big job tomorrow putting stuff back in place. I also took home all valuables such as electronics, pills, etc, and clothing, etc. but I have got most of that put away. All in all, I am really beat!

Nice thing is they did some things they didn't have to do. It was not documented, so I think the mechanics just snuck it in, but they replaced a plastic cover on a ceiling light that had a scorch mark on it and THEY ALSO FIXED MY STOVE COVER!! Can't believe it, but the stuff I thought was damaged paint, was apparently just more goopy stuff, and it looks great, but I still think I will take the recommendation to replace it with a cutting board that will not rattle as I drove and will be more practical than the rattly piece of tin-like steel.

Oh, and a new "fender" over the wheel that I damaged hitting the pole two weeks ago, plus painting it the multiple colors to match my vehicle, replacing a side marker smashed by the same pole, changing the bulb in another marker, fixing a scuff mark I had done last simmer, and replacing the broken awning support bracket only cost me $700. I promise to look more carefully before I pull into or out of places from now on.

Great News Judy. At least at Aloha you shouldn't hit anything unless you happen too close to that fire ring or keep backing up tilll you are in the lake Well, the trees will stop that, but also put a dent in your fender. Dell, told me the other night, that she carries a couple of orange paiils in her rig and sets them out behind and to the side at the point where she want to park and back in. When she is even with the pails she stops. Good idea. Also good for marking things you don't want to hit.

I have spongy areas in my floor, too, but no warranty. Guess I'll just have to live with it. Speaking of orange buckets, backing up isn't all they're good for. I drove over to storage to visit M.H. Rachel and was surprised to see a bird flopping about as if dying. Being familiar with the tactics of killdeer, I started looking around for the nest. I found two eggs in a slight indentation in the shells. To my horror and simultaneous relief, I discovered that my car's tires had come within inches of crushing them. I had to turn away quite cautiously, then got out an orange bucket filled it with rocks and set it in front of the nest to warn other drivers away from it. I informed the storage man why it was there so he wouldn't just walk over to throw it away. 8-Dell

That is a great idea, Sue. I think I will opt for several orange plastic or rubber cones, however, so I can give them double use in an emergency.

I think what happens to me is that I get over-confident and lazy. I say to myself, "Oh, this is a piece of cake. I've done it hundreds of times. No need to get out again and check." I need to remind myself to check EVERY TIME, both pulling in and pulling out.

It could have been a lot worse, as you all know.

Anyway, no more warranty repairs for me, as the coach part is out of warranty now. I do still need to get the transmission checked. They checked my tires and told me I had a small cut on one of them and needed to get a tire place to look at them, so that is on my todo list also. They said it was not unsafe to drive, but I have a spare and might want to switch them and use the one with the cut only in an emergency.

Judy, I get laughed at, but I get out several times, even when I have lots of space and nothing I can possibly hit. Just makes me feel better. Well, when I'm backing, that is. But I do understand that feeling of confidence/overconfidence. They are so close ... we want to be confident, but pay havoc when we get into the "over" category

Love that they admitted what caused the floor problem. It's too bad that to have that great service you have to go directly to the manufacturer. But it's great that they take care of you! Now, if only we could get honest, good, reliable dealers (is that an oxymoron?)
