Our first RV show! And pedal extender question...

Well, that was fun! We heard a TV ad for an RV show in Daytona Beach Thurs-Sunday and ended up driving down today (we're in Jacksonville temporarily) to check it out. After going into a bunch of RVs, we confirmed our thinking that we want a small Class A. We were able to go into another Hurricane 30Q, which was the model we fell in love with at Camping World a couple of weeks ago (see my original thread here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10256&p=134491&hilit=extenders#p134473). And we still think this model is the best fit for us and ticks all our boxes for a variety of reasons. We didn't see anything else at the show that suited us better.

(The good thing is that since we almost bought one at CW before we slept on it, I have discovered that there are enough of this model available around the US as well as the sister brand Windsport 30Q, which is virtually identical, so there was no need to rush into a purchase -- there will be another one available when we are ready. :D )

So, since we had more time and no salesman breathing down our necks, we took our time checking out a lot of things. For instance, JudyJB had mentioned making sure I could reach the lights and so forth. Fortunately, I can. The bed is high up for a petite lady like me, but I had no problem getting up or down with the step on the side, and that tall bed is what provides the "mega storage" garage/basement in back we want.

The one problem I had was difficulty reaching the accelerator. With the seat all the way up, the steering wheel and steering column are fine, and I could reach the brake fine, but the accelerator is a long reach, so for me to drive it, we'd need a pedal extender.

Has anyone used them? Do they work well? :?:

Thanks!
Emily

I actually tried to research them when I was shopping more than a year ago. The problem is that they are mostly too long, plus you would have to take them on and off when you traded drivers, which I think is pretty difficult. I think it takes a couple of wrenches and standing on your head, so to speak. Most people who buy them, leave them on.

Which is why i ended up with a Class C!

Glad you tried everything out, though. Ask the dealer for help and to show you what they would look like and how easy they would be to get on and off.

My DH found some online that look pretty good: http://creativemobilitygroup.com/pedalmates-pedal-extenders/.

It doesn't look like they'd be too difficult to adjust between different drivers, and since we hope/expect to travel only short distances at a time, it's entirely possible that we would only have to adjust them once at the beginning of the driving day, depending on who was driving that day.

I would love to hear someone's personal experiences with them, though. So far nothing here, so I'll try asking on some other forums I am a member of.

Thanks!
Emily

Sorry, as I am 5' 7" I have never had that challenge. I did go to Youtube and watch some videos on how others have remedied the issue. And they did say that for safety reasons you need at least a foot between you and the steering wheel airbags. That's all I can contribute. ;)

Sorry I can't help you either, Emily. Ronnie's legs don't work al all, so he uses Hand Controls for the gas & brake.
