Favorite Checklists?

Postby Olive600 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 10:04 am

I've learned that there are about a gazillion checklists online. But I have no way to know which ones are any good. So I turn to y'all, the experts. I would like to find checklists for my walk-through on Monday, setting up and breaking down in a park, setting up and breaking down boondocking, and supply lists. I think that's enough to start. I also need to learn as much as I can about traveling with a dog. My concern right now is wanting to spend a day somewhere she can't be, like museums. When are people going to learn that everyplace is better when dogs are there! All suggestions are welcome, of course. Pictures of me, my dog Olive, and the RV Bessie coming soon.

I ended up making my own check lists. As for dogs, I leave mine in my rig and if its hot I leave the AC on. If I drive my rig to the museum, etc, I turn on the generator if its hot and the AC. Its all about their comfort. I may be sightseeing outside where I'm sweating bullets but my babies are cool and comfy in the RV.

I have my own mental checklists. Only time I had anything written was when I started towering a cart to reminds myself I couldn't drive in reverse anymore. That said, lots like to have written lists. Keep them basic, like antenna down, steps in, electric unplugged. My biggest thing is sometimes forgetting to close my bathroom door. I don't get far down the road before I hear it swinging and find a place to pull over to shut it.

As to my dog, I open windows. Unless it's going to be super super hot, peaches is good in the rig with the windows open. She only is allowed to come with me in the car if it's cool enough.

Gotta love Beth's auto-correct! I don't think she started towering a cart, but towing a car!

I never use a checklist, but do hang a hat, bungie cord or something from the antenna crank to remind me to put it down before leaving a site.

Thanks, everyone. I need written lists, or I'll worry that I've forgotten something important. I guess Olive will be OK in the rig with the AC on. The usual story is that she's just fine while I worry. I'm sure she's thinking, "Mom, just chill out already."

I don't use lists, but i have some things I do to make sure I don't forget things:

  • When I am done showering, I always latch the shower door closed just in case I decide to drive off.
  • On the night before I know will be a travel day, I put away as much as I can, like swinging the TV back into its travel position and putting my laptop and cords back into my backpack where it travels.
  • I have a little sign I bought at Camping World that is orange and that hangs from my dashboard to remind me that the TV antenna is up.

Overall, I think you just have to keep things put away and form habits so that you are always doing things exactly the same way. Then of course, before you do something like drive off, you do a walk around and make sure you haven't forgotten to unhook or hook something, and that wrench you used to remove something is not sitting on the utility pole! I have learned that I have to look up, down, and in the middle.

And I thought I checked that post. When my antenna is up the keys for the rig hang from it.

I think that we started out making lists but then got to the point that we would forget to check the list...
I think they are somewhat individual so what I do when I get ready to travel is different than others
I have a 5 gal fish tank that I have to prepare if its full need to take out a gal of water need to bunggy it down
and don't forget to turn on the inverter so they have air while traveling
see what I mean ...a lot of people don't have the stuff that I travel with and the inside stuff was my domain my husband handled the outside
stuff then I would make a walk around to see if anything was a miss now I have the outside stuff as well and no one to do a walk around ...he would also take a look inside before I put the slides in to make sure that they were going to come in ok and then because he could get to the area's easier than I could he checked to see what had moved around and needed to be picked up before the slides went out...
so if you need a list look at each room or area and see what needs to be done write it down and go to the next area...
Good luck I'm sure that you will get it all into a routine and stick to that routine when you do if you forget something it won't feel right
