We drove from Grants, NM to Las Vegas in one marathon run. Not much in the way of scenery. Got up to 7200 feet at one time. Saw some strange sites in the desert

it takes a special kind of worker to go up on bridges under construction or work high steel in skyscrapers being built. I can't imagine it, myself. makes my heart race to even think about it.

as always carol, great tour comments and pics!

Great pics. We went across the dam twice and inspected both ways. Stayed at Lake Mead, rented a boat and motored to the dam. It was like a small grand canyon. We drove into Vegas and had a great time. Enjoy your stay. Are you staying at the rv park in the city? carold

It's nice to travel and then it's nice to get somewhere stop for awhile and relax not have to get up and move...take out the stuff that says hey I'm home even though you are always home it is nice to have the 'stuff' out!! Atleast that is my feelings. My ds lives in Los Vegas and we will be traveling through that area just after Thanksgiving on our way to Q. Where are you headed after that

When you get a chance to do the strip ( Vegas) go to the Treasure Island casino and watch the night time show of the ships in front of the casino. Get there early ( there are different times) , our family friend Bob Gurr created them.

Enjoyed the pictures. I don't even want to drive over that bridge when it's finished, let alone work on it now.

Carol, the picture of the old gas station on rt.66, looked so familiar to me. I have driven that route several times, BC (before children), my folks lived in Ca. and we lived in Fl., I was always elected to drive, which was ok, I love to drive. Anyway what memories it brought back and I bet when that place was going strong, I was one of its customers. We're talking way back when there were no interstates, no air in your car, put a bag in front of radiator, so it wouldn't boil over time. Best to make it through there at night. My early twenties, when I knew everything!!! Since then, I've learned how dumb, I was.  Nice to see the pictures of your trip. Thank you

Glad you made it to Vegas safely,

Carol

Lordie Mercy!!
What is the degree of incline on that bridge they are building?????? :o Never seen one go almost straight up into the air. Is it going to be a suspension bridge? When it is finished, will you have to drive over it or will they still allow you do drive over the dam??

Lori you'd hate the Astoria WA/OR bridge it goes way up and Nick Russell from the Gypsy Journal hates going on that one.

I think that might be an arch support, not the bridge's roadbed you are seeing in those pics.

The pictures are of the supports for the bridge - the actual new road and new bridge (when it gets done) will make the trip from Vegas to Kingman, AZ a breeze. The other road from Vegas to Laughlin, NV. is pretty much a straight boring drive.
Haven't hit the strip yet to see what is new. Read in the paper that the construction on the new City Center project on the strip employees 8,200 people and they work 3 shifts 24/7. This city grows like crazy. That was one of the reasons we moved her 6 years ago and one of the reasons we moved away 1 1/2 years ago.
