OK, Cali is finalized. I'll be working at Yosemite Pines CG from mid-October to mid-March (gives me a couple weeks playtime after - or I could stay through March if I want).

Diana, if you figure out when you'll be around, I'd love to plan some type of gtg when you can be there, too. That said, I can't do any real planning of one until I'm there.

Laura, I'll do everything in my power to gtg with the two of you during the week you'll be there. That will probably be my first week at the cg, but I'm sure I'll have a day off.

Congrats, Beth. :)

I've stayed there twice, both times during the summer when it was blistering hot. But I wasn't there to hang out in the CG -- Yosemite was my destination.

What will you be doing there? That's got to be a fairly slow season for them, I imagine. And while you might not appreciate it, we Californians are hoping like heck that El Niño makes its appearance this winter, so it could be a wet winter for you.

You'll be about an hour from the Valley from there. It's a pretty drive. Going down 120 from there is one of the scariest drives I've ever done. After doing it once with a friend in her motorhome (we were young and dumb back then), I vowed to never go that way again. So both times I stayed there I took the loooong way out and went through the Valley & down Hwy. 41 and through Fresno to get back to So. Calif.

The Sierras are beautiful. Hopefully you'll be able to get into the high country before the snow flies and they close it down. Again, if El Niño hits, the snowpack could be quite large this winter. But there's no better hiking, and the lakes are pristine.

Don't get me started on Yosemite. ;) I don't care what people say about the crowds. If you know how to navigate it, there are truly places in the Valley where you can be alone and not realize how many people there are in other areas. I'll share my secrets with you when you get there.

Even if El Niño hits (and so hoping it does) the Sierra foothills are glorious in winter. (I'll be putting the usual annual appointments in place in the next few weeks; and then set my return trips home so will keep in touch).

California needs the rain. I hope not every day, but I'll gladly accept rain over fires! And while I don't want lots of overly cold and/snow, I'm looking forward to seeing Yosemite in the snow once.

And spending time with you, Diana, is definitely another highlight.

That looks like a nice campground and is reasonably priced for California. I am not sure when, but I will definitely get out there to see you sometime over the winter. I want to go back to Yosemite, but that will probably be a little later, more like May or June when I can drive in and stay inside the park. I don't want to have to rent a car or take my motorhome in and out each day since I have no tow vehicle.

That area should be fairly decent for you in terms of weather if you stay later than March because it is in the foothills.

I have a car, so if the weather is good when you visit, we can do a day trip. Either way, we'll get to visit.

Hey, what about me? I'm a little less than 3 hours from the Valley floor, so even closer to Groveland.

I was hoping you'd chime in :-) Of course I hope we get together, multiple times. Maybe even I could drive down for another trip into SF.

Beth, I imagine this means I won't need to reserve a space for you at Camp Cihak this fall. :(

Unfortunately, Pat, no reservation for me again this fall.
