Oh dear. What happened to her dog? I like to know about such things in the hope I might avoid the same situation should it ever arise. Please give your friend my most sincere condolences. Thank you.

I have three dogs, one not quite ready to cross over the bridge (almost 17 years old) who is the mother of my brother-and-sister pair (the pair are soon to be 13 years old).

My boy is not doing well of late, and I have him into the vet tomorrow. I hate it when they get so very old so very quickly. They are my heart.

I don't know which is worse. Having dogs of much the same age, who then go at much the same time, or spacing them out in age - so they go every year or two.

To lose a loved dog is to have a part of your soul destroyed. As each one leaves, they take a little bit of of it with them. And you never get it back.

I thought for a long time that when they are gone there will be no more dogs for me.

But without dogs, what is the point in living?

Anne, I had two Jack Russells close in age. Had to put them down within a few years of each other after old age problems made their lives painful. Said I would never get another but now I have Maggie. The scary part is that she is 15/16. No way to know how long we travel together.

That pretty much sums up how I feel now, also. Peaches came in after I lost one dog and had another who I knew wouldn't be around much longer. It really did help having her before I was dogless ... but I never forget the others (or any of my pets - I should say children - before them).

Judy, is there a chance of a problem with your Yosemite plans if there's a government shutdown? I heard national parks would be closed. Hopefully they won't let that happen.

I was wondering the same thing. We will soon know what's going down, and it'd better not be a delay in our getting our social security checks on time or many of us probably won't be able to maintain our A-1 credit status! And, personally, I probably will lose a ton of weight as I won't be able to afford groceries, either. Nor will I be able to head south. I hope those A-holes making the decisions come to their senses soon!

Nasoosie, I was thinking about my SSA check also. It's done electronically. Maybe we will get it a @ midnight before they shut down?

From what I have read, checks will go out on time, no matter what, so that is good news.

Yes, they may shut down the national parks. If so, I will just have to find another place to stay for a while. The big problem is that reservations are so hard to get for there, so it is not a case of being able to reschedule for the next week or so.

I went to the urologist yesterday, and he wants to schedule a cat scan and a cystoscopy. I don't know when that will be, but I will stick around here as long as it takes. I also have to come back to Napa anyway after Yosemite (Oct 7-14) to see the orthopedic surgeon about my knee. I will feel better knowing all is OK before I head south and west.

Got my grandchildren with me overnight again tonight. They spent last night and we went back to their house for the day today. They are ages 6 & 8 and love camping so wanted to stay. Monday is school however, so they will be home. We are going to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom tomorrow as my son and his wife have season passes. Last night we visited the model railroad nearby. I will be posting about this county fairgrounds campground soon. It is very nice, but expensive at $45 per night, but has huge cement pads and full hookups. It is within walking distance of downtown Napa, so very popular.

I guess we are seeing the first fall out of Obama Care. Blue Cross is dropping their drug policy for people on Medicare as of January 1, 2014. Wonder what will be next?

Just got home from my nephew's wedding. It was at a winery in southern MN. It rained this morning and early afternoon but cleared up just before the wedding started (outside). It was really a nice ceremony and I even caught my brother with tears in his eyes! The reception was in a large tent and the dinner was either spaghetti or chicken fettuccini alfredo. I went with the alfredo and it was fantastic! My nephew has been thru a lot the past 10 years (drug and alcohol addiction and cancer) but he found a great gal to spend the rest of his life with and they have been together for 6 years now. He is now a police officer and she is a nurse. She looks just like Jennifer Love Hewitt.

My sister-in-law's sister (would that be my SIL once removed??? :? ) surprised us all by showing up to the wedding! She is the one who also had a double mastectomy the same day Mitch did. They originally only found cancer in one breast but she decided to have both removed, and after the surgery they discovered cancer in the other one too, so it was a good decision on her part. Also found out yesterday that lymp nodes are fine. Was very relieved to hear that. It was great to see her there!

My dad did good all day too. It was great that he was able to go and he really enjoyed it.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

FYI, bathrooms do not smell as nicely after being used by 8-year-old boys whose aim is not always very good! Need to scrub it again before I go to bed.

Just saw the headline in the local paper saying that the visitor center for Grand Teton National Park will be closed for the winter
to save money...personally that is ok rather see it closed than some other things go away.
They have threatened SS before and it's not happened will hope that it doesn't happen this time as I'd be in a world of hurt just
like many others...

Judy, are you sure that is just 8 year old males that have that difficulty? :)
