I did go back and reread some parts of the book, and I see where you really did add a lot of visual imagery. Guess I just did not remember it.
Anyway, I envy your guts and courage for writing this and putting it out for all of us amateurs to critique!

The visual imagery was some of my favorite parts. I hate to say this, but using the dialect was my least favorite part of the book (And usually I dislike it in any book so didn't say anything.)
