I so agree with you Judy. I have never been lonely around RV'ers. All you have to do is be outside or walk your dog and someone says Hi and talks to you.

It's very unusual to see an unhappy camper and this is contagious. I think most of the grumpy, unhappy ones find out they are hard pressed to find an audience...guess their animals get to hear it.
I guess I've reached the stage of lying awake trying to decide what to do next. Other than some touching up and my handyman putting up a light fixture all the inside work is done so I've run out of excuses not to start emptying the house. I think I have enough clear containers to hold all I will want to put in my storage building. So I need to go find some boxes for moving things out to the garage as this will be final stage before bringing in a dealer for what is left. The painters are in the attached garage today so I won't be carrying things through it.
Through Liz, Judy and Janice (sorry if I missed someone) I've seen it can be done and Dawn seems to be holding up too so I remain confident I too can carry this task through to finish :?

Nancy, I am still holding up. Sometimes better than others. It's weird, it is something I have wanted to do for a long time and I get excited about actually being some place, but this packing and trashing to get ready to go is really difficult to get excited about. Somedays I wish I could just walk away from it all. I really have to push myself. I know you can do it. You've really already started, it sounds like to me.

This seems to be one of my non-motivated days and my sore booty isn't helping. With your daughter taking so much it helps with the decision making on each thing. I am sitting here thinking about how I will have to handle every single thing I own and place in 3 categories..pack what I want to keep, pack for families future want, and pack for what I definitely do not want. It's like everything else, once I start it the motivation will come..and yes I would like to run away too at times.
Dawn, our sistahs might think we are monopolizing the forum. I can only guess at why you need to take breaks and express emotions and progress but you are in the stages of grief and we are both in the process of a major life transition. It helps to relate what's on our hearts and minds and also relieves tension. When my body tells me I am pushing too hard I can sit down, log on, type while drinking my water and I soon feel refreshed and ready to take another little bite out.

We're wearing this thread out..or maybe it's just me. The painter is finishing up today. Mr. handyman comes tomorrow and will probably spend 2-3 days with his list of things to do. I will check on boxes every time I go to town. Maybe I can talk a grocery store to save some for me. Time for compartmentalizing.

Don't worry about the thread, Nancy. It is hard, what we are doing. There are a whole bunch here who have already done it. I am here to listen any time you need. You've done it bunches of times for me!

One trick I used to motivate myself was to pull out two or three drawers each evening and then tackle them after dinner while I watched TV. Once I had them or a couple of boxes sitting in front of me, it was easier to go through them than to put them back.

I also tacked one closet or portion of a closet each evening I wasn't doing drawers.

In other words, don't think about the whole enormous task--just a couple of small things at one time.

Good luck to you and the others!!

Sorry I've been away from this old, tired thread. I don't have much bandwidth at the state park where I am camp-hosting.

But the news is that my house went under contract in SEVEN (yes, count 'em!) SEVEN days on the market.

On a cash offer. (I had two offers on the same day!) The buyer put down $20K and is trying to close as soon as possible. There's a little squiggle I won't go into that is slowing it down by a few days, but I have to say I have nothin' but luxury problems.

"Oh, NO!" she said, wailing in self-pity. "I sold my house too quickly and have to move all my STUFF!"

And ladies, you all need to b###ch-slap me to Texas and back because I started feeling nostalgic tonight, thinking about whether I want to give up my home of 15 years.

Yeah. Just you rear back and GIVE to to me, sistahs.

For those of you not on Facebook, here are some pictures of the house all staged:

The end is in sight, my friends. And for those of you who have come to the party late, the old-timers here can tell you how many times I have declared my decision to sell my house, only to see me collapse in a quivering mass of protoplasm.

Once I have all my stuff in storage here or in St. George (a.k.a. my expensive storage unit), I am going to hit the road and just meander through this great country of ours. It will feel weird not having a home in Salt Lake to return to.

Janice, it's going to be OK. That's the litany I keep repeating to myself. As much as my house has needed a remodel, but Chuck got too sick for us to get it done, it felt really weird yesterday when Matt and Pat were measuring my rooms and talking about the walls they were going to take down, etc.

You are going to do great wandering this wonderful country, going anywhere you want to go, when you want to go.

I went thru all this two years ago when I decided to move to CA from MN. It is amazing how much stuff a person can collect over the years! And now, getting ready to move back, I am discovering how much I have collected in just two years out here!

I am taking just one thing each day to sort thru. One day clothes, one day books, etc. Today was bathroom stuff. Luckily, what is good stuff that I don't want to take with me, I am able to leave here with my roommates. They are going to go thru it and take what they want and bring the rest to the Salvation Army. They are gonna get a lot of nice stuff!

I am sure after getting back to MN, I will start all over collecting more things...

So interesting to read this thread of posts. I, too, am in the throes of trying to "de-stuff" my house here in the north country, to make it more livable to the rest of my family who will now share the use of it, on and off, while I am traveling or in FL. Although I know I am not leaving the house itself, it kills me to have to part with so much of my "stuff"----it is all so wonderful to me, with its memories or uses or just good feelings to have it. I have managed to just do the living room, thus far, and actually still haven't tackled my 78 rpm records in the cabinet in there. After clearing and stowing stuff into "Toss or give away" or "Keep" or "Sell" plastic see-through bins, I now can't find anything I need which up to this point I could find immediately in the chaos that was my living room. It pains me, to say the least. I need to keep going, however. Some things I will never part with. The hell of it is, I want to keep it all!!!

Sigh! I understand the pain you all are going through, and, if I had to sell this house, I would be a basket case. The stuff is all I can handle.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!
