Now that is beautiful. Almost makes you want to be in Fairbanks now. No wait, it's 40 below in Fairbanks now.

I'm a big sissy - have been in 40 below before, would rather never be in it again :) That said, loved watching it (and then I watched a couple others).

I get cold at 40* so at -40* I'd be pretty well frozen. Well not pretty.....but well frozen.

Loved the lights! Thanks Mitch.

"When It's Springtime in Alaskaaaaa, it's 40 belowwwww" or so the song goes.

Congratulations Janet. May you have many happy years together.

Okay, of those of you who are heading North To Alaska, anybody pulling trailers or are you all going in MH's? Just curious. Wish I were able to go, but.....

That video on the Northern Lights over Fairbanks was beautiful. But Mitch, were you by chance into the beer already? Did you notice the date you posted, January 12, 2112  Ummmmm, I thought this was 2012.

Have been in Circle, Alaska in mid March and saw some great northern lights. It was so cold that your camera would freeze up if you didn't keep it inside your coat between snapping shots. But it was even colder in Keflavik, Iceland where I lived for 2 years. I have seen those lights dance across the sky many times and yet I still would go back. In fact, I'm toying with the idea of revisiting Iceland this winter (only for a week) just to see how it has changed in 30 years. BTW, 40 below is not the bad part. It's the wind that will kill ya folks!

Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how you manage a box of wine in that kayak! :D

All great and accurate advice. In the ocean, slack tide is generally a good time, as is early AM, but weather can kick up quickly. We always carried a marine radio with us. Even just going around a bend you can run into different waters. Swales that start out almost nonexistant can't suddenly kick up to some pretty amazing heights. What he said about water temp is extremely correct!
I have lost several friends, one on Skilak Lake, who was an avid outdoors woman.
Just have to use allot of common sense and be prepared for any contingent.
