When to call 911

Mitch, I knew you would come through here :)

As to GPS - they are a guideline, I never follow mine blindly. Remember way back when I posted this:

As to dirt roads and sometimes non-existent roads - the gps systems are loaded from maps provided by the communites. Some of the roads aren't built yet, some are not paved, etc. Luckily, Tom asks me if I want it to take me on unpaved roads. That said, Tom tried to take me into the ocean :) as you can see above. I use the GPS mainly as a guideline - and never go anywhere without checking my atlas' and maps also. The gps is wonderful when traveling through cities, though - that's when I like it the most. Love that it knows which side exits are on, etc.

Glad that nothing was damaged but your nerves. I am getting better about getting off the road before dark. Many times I have turned off at a sign for a campground. A couple of turns and nothing. I'm sure the campground owners are wondering why they don't have more business.

Martha

Martha, I actually did have a thought about taking pictures, but it was dark, eerily dark, lol. Believe me, the next day it was 4 o'clock when he said find us a campground! The TomTom has a thing that says "Help Me' and then "Where Am I?", if you push that it will give you the coordinates and I tried to give them to the 911 dispatch, but she said if the officer couldn't find us then she would try and see if she could find something that would show coordinates, lol, small town again!

We're home now and get our boys tomorrow from their vacation condos (vet office) so we are happy.

OMG Mitch ... you are SO funny. I hope I never have to end up on one of your
milk cartons (or "live" breaking news -- once is enough).

Right, AVA,,, I am sure there are a lot of NUTS that call 911 for silly things,, but at OUR age... I'd hope that we are danged independent enough that we won't call,, unless we, like Vickie and Ron,, just absolutely can NOT think of another way out!

I almost called them this morning, when mama fell and daddy and I couldn't get her up! She wouldn't let me, but thankfully the painter outside rang the doorbell and wanted money,, so i asked HIM to help her up and he lifted her up w/ NO effort at all!

ahhhhh to be young and strong again! ! ! ! I sure did hate to call 911, tho,, for such a menial thing as that! ;) They go to TOO much trouble!

Vickie, what an adventure! It appears that being in the "wrong place" at the "wrong time" turned out for the best. Oh a happy note, it's nice to know that there are really good people out there willing to help you out. Kudos to the people of that "small" town, which might be small in size, but they have big hearts. I'm so glad you and Ronnie are all right. Linda
