Wow, Governor Newsom of California has called for all Californians 65 years and older to self-isolate. Yikes!!! The directive is only considered to be a guideline at this point with Newsom noting “we have the capacity to enforce if necessary.” This is going to be painful.

A bit worse than that now. California cases as of 11:00 p.m. last night (March 14) were at 340. As of tonight at 10:00 p.m. (March 15), California cases are up to 431. This is an increase of 26.8%.

Another way to look at this is that cases in Italy were at 453 on February 26. As of tonight (18 days later), cases in Italy stand at 24,747. Population of Italy is about 60 million, California about 40 million, so there is a bit of a difference. I fear that we are all in for a bit of a ride on this one.

Just found out we will be closing the shop at 4 instead of 8 so we will have 4 hour shifts each day. It helps a little but still potential exposure to the virus. If things get a lot worse in the next week, I may just ask to take a few weeks off on my own if they don't shut the shop down.

I'm retiring at possibly the worst time ever - but sent out the notice to folks at Unbound this morning before the stock market opened & before I heard the increasing numbers of those with the virus, etc. Oh well, it is what it is.

I had to turn in paperwork to the Social Security office that I've had health insurance in order to get Medicare part B rolling. The only instructions I could find on this form was to bring it to your local SS office - no place where it could be mailed to, so I decided at the last minute to run it down this morning right after they opened. It wasn't crowded & I was in & out in pretty quick. Later today I got the notice that all Social Security offices will be closed effective tomorrow. Lesson learned - follow your gut. If you have an inkling to do something, don't hesitate just do it!

I really believe we have only seen the tip of the iceberg in number of cases - after all, they aren't testing that many people yet & some folks are testing positive even with no symptons. Once testing is really underway the numbers will appear to shoot up when in reality, they've been high all along.

I'm happily hunkered down. Working remotely has conditioned me to not having much physical contact with anyone for days at a time so I'm good with isolation.
