Thanks. Both of those state parks look interesting. I have saved them as favorites. I might even want to stay a couple of nights at Balmorhea.
I am interested in traveling a bit slower so I can see things as I go.
We have deer problems in Michigan too, so thanks for the warning. I did hit one a few years back. I was driving at dusk on a back road and came down a small ravine at about 50 MPH. I had a Saturn at the time and sort of scooped up a large buck because the hood of my car was sloped and low to the ground. He scrambled around on my hood and then jumped off and ran into the woods, so he may have been OK. My uncle was upset because I did not call him to get the meat. In Michigan, if you hit a deer and report it immediately to the police or sheriff's department, you can get a permit to take the meat or donate it. (So we eat roadkill!) I told my uncle, I didn't think there was any meat to get because he looked fine, and I was not about to go chasing a deer into the dark woods at night!! Luckily I had only damage to a turn signal, and found a sheriff to report it to right down the road.
I will check out the Texas state parks and look out for deer at dusk!!
