I admit to overdoing it today. I just can't help it. I feel so guilty about all the time my son is spending with me--taking me to surgery, carrying garage sale things to Ohio, and helping me next weekend with the move. I want everything to be completely packed up before he comes on Friday night. I refuse to ask him to do more. So I am going to finish the last of the stuff in the den today or else.

I have always been very independent and try to be responsible for my own actions. Well, after paying two guys to cart a bunch of furniture down to my garage for pickup by charity, I can't get anyone to pick it up. And I cannot put it out for the trash because that is not until Tuesday morning or I will be fined. So now we are going to move it to OHio, except for maybe two pieces, and then drop it off at my son't house for the garage sale, which means he will have to do more hauling. My really big goof for not planning this better and ordering a pickup earlier. Also, he is OK now, but he was very sick last year, and I don't like to make him work.

The thing is that he and his wife always pay for movers to pack them up and unpack, but I cannot afford the several thousand dollars and I also had to toss things, so I always do it the hard way. Being single and not having much money a lot of my life has always meant doing things the hard way, and I am just really tired of it.

So 30 minutes more packing, and I am taking a nap. Sorry to complain to all of you, but I needed to have someone to listen. My toe is sore but doing OK. No swelling or hotness.

Judy, don't be silly. That's what we are here for. Share whatever you want or need to. I know we are all probably worried about you over doing it. I always seem to do things the hard way too. I bet most women do. We don't like to be seen as weak. Let your son help you. I would imagine he wants to help and this is something he can do for you. Hopefully he knows what he can handle now after being sick last year.

Get some rest.

So glad all went well. Rest up and those mixed up keys will sort themselves out.

Go ahead and vent hun!!! We will listen as often as you need us to.

But yeah that's us. Women who are independent. Movers, do'ers, shakers, make do'ers and workers!! We do like to do it 'ourselves'. And like you I have a son I have to watch. He would move heaven and earth to help me out. I let him do some stuff and sometimes I ask him to do something for me. Makes him feel useful and like he's paying me back. He says he owes me for everything in his life. I think if I didn't let him help out once in a while it would really hurt him and I guess even feel somewhat useless. Sons are like that ya know!! :D This is one time Mom that he can help and pay back! Gotta love 'em. Everyone knows our kids don't have to pay us back for being Moms. That's just who and what we are.

I remember wanting desperately to help out and pay back my parents for everything that they had done for me. I remember that it use to drive them nuts too!

Judy, let your son help. I totally understand where you're coming from. I have worked so hard to be independent since I lost my husband, that now that I have to be here totally dependent on my son and family, I am really having a hard time dealing with it. I am so glad to be in my r.v., and not under foot in the house, it makes it a wee bit bearable for me. I'm sure they don't mind, BUT Mom is having a hard time.

Don't mess up the toe, you will have to depend on him more, and that you don't want

So glad the surgery went well for you,

CArol :)

Just think of all those years you had to walk around in pain just because of that little bone chip! How nice to have it finally removed!

Now just let it recover and allow your son to do what he can and will and probably wants to do. I know exactly how you feel about having others do things for you, however----it takes some pride-swallowing to allow it to happen. At least for me it does.

I can't believe nobody will come pick up that furniture. If I were closer, I am sure I could use it in this house!

I think I found someone from the township DPW who will pick it up for a small fee. He is supposed to call me back. I will have him take the heaviest pieces least likely to sell.

I had a very nice night's sleep last night, probably due to vicodin, so I feel better. Not too much left to pack up, but china will be the hardest. Also need to clean out refrigerator. No room for all those condiments. Oh, and must pack up wine, of course. Funny to end up carting it (about 9 bottles) back to where I got most of it in Napa, CA!!

Toe aches a bit, but is not bad, especially if I put it up once in a while. I am not using the boot because it hurts more in it than out of it. Bandage is partly falling off so I can see that it is not red or too swollen. No showers for two weeks, however, so washed my hair in the kitchen sink last night.

Judy, any Am Vets, Goodwill or Salvation Army places around you? Or some shelters for abused women that could pick up the furniture and not cost you anything? They are always calling/sending flyers for free pick up. Naturally, I'm not familiar with your area but it seems that many places would jump at the free furniture. Just a thought. Good luck with everything. Linda

They would pick it up but need 2-4 weeks notice, and I was neglectful in making an arrangement sooner. My fault.

I rebandaged my foot because the bandages were falling off, and it is looking really good--hardly any swelling and not red or anything. Toe no longer has lump on side and looks thinner than it has in 10 years! I am very hopeful I will be able to wear regular shoes after this thing heals. It is more comfortable to walk without the boot, so I have temporarily ditched it.

Packed up my mother's Candlewyck crystal and will tackle my china later tonight. Resting right now. Packing is almost done! Hurray.
