Sheila,

My heart goes out to you. My husband, Chuck, was placed in hospice care the day before yesterday. He is in end stages of kidney disease, lung disease, and has now developed heart trouble. Dr told him he should be in hospital, but if he went to hospital he would die there. He and Dr talked about it and decided this wasn't what Chuck wants. He wants to die at home. He does not want to be intubated again and put on life support again. This has happened twice, most recently, 1 year ago. Hospice told me same thing and as of yesterday, he has rallied and is doing better. We are making the most of however much time we have left too.

Hugs to you,
Dawn

Hugs to you, Sheila. And prayers to you and Larry that you can enjoy the time left - however long it is. As long as he can be pain free, I think that'll be the big part.

thank you all for your sweet wishes...so appreciate them...we have started a new normal for us I believe
have a sad thought as I saw a couple of 5th wheels go by that in all likely hood we won't be moving our 5th wheel
any time soon...yes we do have the time that many don't get which is good and in some ways not so good
I know he is in pain and that hurts to see him not doing what I know he would enjoy doing like going up to
Upper Coffeepot and be the campground host!
Dawn my best to you may you find your solace

My thoughts and prayers go out to the both of you. Hospice is good for managing the time left because the focus is keeping the patient as comfortable as possible.

Sheila my prayers are with you and Larry. I know how it feels to be hit with the word Hospice and you may find that the early days will feel very intrusive with everyone coming and going, but please let them help you in anyway they can. The more they do for you the caregiver the more time you will be able to spend with Larry. We are in our 7th month with them and I can tell you the team we have had with hospice has been the greatest gift. Our journey is ending, down to hours now, while yours is just beginning so take care of yourself so you can be there later when you need the strength. My Dr told me this would be the hardest job I have ever done, but I have also found that we have been blessed to have this time to spend together and I am sure you will be as well.

May you find the peace to let God carry much of the load and just love each other now.

Hugs to you both,

Thanks to everyone for your hugs and good wishes. We had a lot of company on Friday and Chuck slept almost all of yesterday. He has been doing great today. I keep thinking the doctor has to be wrong. Chuck has always been a fighter and a really strong man. I am going to do this one day at a time and keep thinking the doctor doesn't know beans.

Sheila,

Hope all is going OK for you. You can PM me if you ever just need to talk and/or vent. I spend my days now sitting, knitting and watching to make sure everything stays OK. Hugs and prayers for you.

Sheila, Dawn, Deb, and any others facing the loss of their loved one: This job is the hardest thing a wife can face. I don't know which is worse. To lose your partner suddenly when you aren't prepared like I did, or to know the day is rushing closer and it's a longer goodbye. We just aren't ready no matter what the circumstances.

My wish for each of you is to have some joyful times mixed in with the sad, and that you lean on the strength of family and friends when you need it. Lots of strength for you here - tap into it anytime.
