Nome is not a place any of us will be. Just to take some of the scare off - gas prices in Anchorage as I type this are hovering around $4.20. I paid more than that in Big Bend National Park this week. Now, Valdez, where I'll be - and where the pipeline terminal ends - is at $4.64.

For anyone interested in keeping up with the gas prices in Alaska: www.alaskagasprices.com

No, Nome is not a place the average traveler can go. I just made my comment to explain why they might be paying 39 dollars for toilet paper, by now its probably VERY scarce   Although hope they have had deliveries by now.

As far as gas goes, we may pay in some areas in the lower 48, more then up there. Of course, I'm diesal, so know I will pay more. Although diesal this morning was still reasonable here, less then some have quoted they're paying for gas. Proving my point again thats its region you're in.

I've seen some programs on travel channel of Nome and would love to go, but not flying or taking a dog sled. Sled dogs probably wouldn't like Maggie as a passenger ;) :P

You know, Ladies, you could always stuff any extra storage spaces with toilet paper...doesn't weigh much & would solve any rattle problems, then if fuel fund runs short you could barter for it! :P

LOLOLOL! You are such a Doofus. Maybe we could drive to Nome just to make some moo-lah for the gas home.

I don't even think there are roads (well, real roads) that get to Nome. The only person from our group really going to northern Alaska is Anita - and they are taking a tour (flight I believe) to Prudhoe Bay. I did 2 flights last time - one to the top of Mt. McKinley (Denali) and one a float plane into Misty Fjords. Nothing like Anita is doing - can't wait for her pics, etc.

Nome is a fabulous place in the spring time. The birding, flowers, reindeer, elk, moose, birds, deer, fox, lynx, bears, birds, oxen or whatever they are called, birds and landscape is out of this world. Would love to be able to drive up there and even considered boat trip in there. But will just have to remember the flight in and all the great days we had. We were there in mid June and since they had a 'mild winter' there was not much snow left and the roads had been 'fixed'. It was really a great place to experience.

I expect that things have change a little bit, but I am really excited about going up there.

Hope everyone can blog or post their adventures in some way. I'm so interested as this is one of my 'dream trips'. We are tentatively planning on going the summer of 2014. Doing some shorter trips this summer. This is my last summer having to plan around a work schedule!!

I don't blog, but I have started a web page where I will post more pictures than anything, when possible.

I'll be blogging. And if you want to see my 2009 trip to Alaska - go to my blog and find the Alaska posts - or go to the first posts and work your way back - as that's when I started my blog.

Well, thanks, Lenora. But I'm afraid I'm not terribly interesting. Belle, however - that's a different story...I wonder if she'll have the cajones to post about HER adventures...

Our blog site also has pictures of our trips to Alaska. Not sure if we will go this year. We are taking our two oldest gk's to England and Ireland (maybe Scotland and Wales) for 3 weeks this summer. carold
