What great pictures, and superbly put together narative and history! When I get back north, I will get out my early camping pics! I am hoping I have the little Indian-type teepee canvas tent that my grandmother gave me and my brother to set up at our summer camp on the East Granby River in CT.....that was the beginning of my addiction to tents! I have only been an RVer for a few years now, so those pics are few.

Those pics definitely motivate me to get my old vintage `1977 Glenelle trailer back home looked at and examined to let me know if it can be made road-worthy again by me. I did use it for three summers to travel to some Bluegrass festivals, but was told I needed a better hitch for it, and they were right. I still love its floor plan even better than this new one. It even has a handpump in addition to an electric pump, in case you have no power of any sort!

I'll have to trade my time back home between de-stuffing my house and working on that trailer this summer....my daughter will demand that I get rid of tons more stuff from the house!

Thanks so much for sharing those pics!!

That was so kool, thanks for sharing. Now you have me wondering if there are any pictures at all of the truck camper my parents had when I was a teen.

And yep, I sure guess we can be called vintage too!!

It isn't bad being considered a "vintage" model....considering the alternatives...... before Mitch gets online....my mind went to...the junk pile....or the trash heap.....sort of what my body can feel like some mornings. Now I will work to remind myself...."Self, you are vintage.... with a little buffing here and polish there....there are still some good miles left to go! :D

Oh, what a trip down memory lane. Very interesting to see how the rigs have evolved over the years too. Wish I had some pictures of our different camping venues couse a lot of my early years were either in tents or buildings with my Girl Scout troops.

Liz, your mention of your dad building that boat brought back memories of the one my dad made too. In fact i still have pictures of it. And our "camp" was a cottage on a lake too, that eventually became a permanent home.

That was neat betty. My family traveled a lot but didn't camp. My husband's family never did (maybe because they had 6 kids!?) and he greatly enjoyed our camping and traveling. It's a shame when families with kids don't introduce them the the outdoors and all the fun stuff. We often had extra kids along with us whose families never did such things and they always loved it, Wendy

Your first rig looks to be about the size of mine - it's a 16' box on a 19' trailer.

I've no camping background so your trip down memory lane was very interesting. My "vintage" camping only goes back about 10 months.
