Doesn't mean you'll decide to make the same stops - but I figured it didn't hurt to tell you - again lol

Thanks Beth...... I did read "Into the Country" that Molly recommended.... Having been written in the late 1970's it gave a good sense of history to the settling of the country. I am finishing up an Alaska Travel book now (Insight Guide by Discovery Channel...from the 1/2 price store) I really liked the glossy pictures :) Might have to divert my attention to a few fiction books and then feed my brain and imagination with more Alaska information. Pacing myself, Sharon would be so proud.

I am interested in knowing how far ahead that you decided and made your reservations for the Ferry that you took back. I haven't decided it I am interested in going that route back or not. Also need to do more reading in the time frames that the rig is on board and the windows of time that the dogs can get relieved, etc.

Don't forget the Mile Marker magazine...that way you don't miss anything! 'Course it takes about 2 years just to read it! And yes, Tina, I'm very proud of you!!! I was afraid you were gonna have major burn out before the cruise, but that was a whole new experience for you. You've done enough traveling this should be a stroll in the park for you.

TIna, I made my reservation while in AK - and got a better rate there also. I remember people telling me I needed to make those way in advance - they were wrong. I did make them at the beginning of my trip - but then also changed them twice during the ferry trip. You don't have to decide right away.

Sharon, I threw away my milepost a short time into the trip - hated that thing. But I know many love it and use it.

I do LOVE the Terry and Mike Church "Camping Alaska" book and highly recommend it - make sure to get the latest edition - which I think is this one:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/travele ... an+camping or
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/098231 ... 0982310110
if you decide to get it. B&N shows no reviews cuz they all show up on an earlier edition. Amazon gives it 5 stars.

HI gang! sorry to be absent so long... lotsa stuff beengoing on. Perhaps you read about my marriage!?? ;) anyway,, i did it! New yrs eve. he is a sweetie,, but gotta get him well,, he's been having trouble w/ his diabetes. ALso on OCt 6 he had bypass surgery. So,, it's been a real party this fall.

I just wanted to say,, I"d done the drive BACK from Alaska....flew up, met a "friend" in August of '07 and drove from Anchorage up to Fairbanks and then around the bend thru Chicken,, (He was a gold prospector) and then on out thru the Yukon,, thru Dawson City,, etc,,, you can check the map but was a great trip,, panning for gold along the way... and the roads were fine. SOme were a little muddy at times but we pulled a 5th wheel and had absolutely NO trouble. I live to do it again,, this time w/ my sweet hubby.
I have pictures from the trip but i wont try to post them on here.. too dang much trouble...i will look at my pics tht are posted on photobucket and see if there are any, but,,, anyway,,,

I WILL do it gain,, but this time in a motorhome,, not pull a trailer,,, just cuz that's what we want to get. Just thinking about it makes me itchy! ;)

best regards to you gals,, and glad you all are doing well.

love you all

We have an old edition but Amazon will have the latest Milepost March 22 - we'll be getting one just because. Since I'm not the one doing the planning, it'll give me something to look at for a month before we go :)

We also have the Churches' book which we also like better.

Once a definite date was decided to get back to Washington, I made our ferry reservations which led to our White Pass Yukon Railroad reservations in Skagway. We aren't making a lot of ferry stops this time with the hope we will be able to go back in 2 years for more time in the southern part - God willing and the creek don't rise.

Not wanting a hard and fast schedule, but our return date is important this time due to a niece's wedding.

Met a group in Tampa at the RV show. They were there representing Alaska. One of the ladies gave me her card and said call anytime if we ran into problems and she would help us out. Nice to have a contact in Alaska.
