Dee, what an extraordinary first long trip. Keep the pics coming.

Just a thought on the insect repellant. If you are staying in one spot for any length of time, the clip on type of repellant would work very well. There is no chemical that gets on you, or others. As long as you are stationery, it will work. The clips don't work if you are moving around. Just a thought for next time.

Will post pics in sections so not so overwhelming...

Interesting Sights along the way

Who knew there was a giant sombrero along I-95
Image

And at least 2 Camping Worlds
Image

So this is how you drive an RV and bring your kayak along
Image

And this is how you transport your motorcycle...
Image

and your horse!
Image

and this pic....well....just very interesting especially with the license plate that read U-DA-VAN
Image

Please don't worry about me taking the shots while on the road. I basically just "shot" without looking at the viewfinder or screen, just hoping that I got the pic. As you can imagine, I was successful only a small amount of the time.

I like the name on the spare tire cover even better than the license plate. And I've taken some great shots out the window. We don't talk (or share) the many that didn't turn out great - as yep, just point and shoot and hope it turns out.

Key Largo Kampground and Marina

There are beautiful marina sites available here with tiki huts at water's edge but most, if not all, are in full sun. Since I was traveling with the cats, I requested a shady site. It is mainly a condo association type campground with permanent trailers at the sites.

My first open water snorkeling was at John Pennekamp SP. Within minutes of being in the water I had a barracuda just off my shoulder. Scared me and I ended up sucking in water thru my snorkel! We took a boat offshore to the reefs.

Could you post your directions here? I purposely take I-81 when traveling north to avoid DC.

Dee,

Loved your photos. That contraption for carrying the kayak interests me. One I found similar had a winch, etc This one looks simpler.
