Thank you all for the well wishes. I will not be making my trip in the r.v. I wasn't a mile from the house, going up a slight hill and brakes locked up on me, turned right around and got it back home. Front wheel was smoking and smelling , old memories of last fall. No more trips in it , my traveling r.v. days are over, I guess. I know the Lord does watch out over me, what if I had made it through Chattanooga, going up Monteagle, 4 mile incline? :(

My daughter in law suggested I drive out in the car, they have sleeping quarters for me at rodeo. Other then one day driving trips to Fl. I have not traveled in a car, getting motels, hotels etc., ever. I have Maggie, so my question to some of you who might have answers. Which hotels, allow dogs? Thats my big question, but my other is, should I make such a trip in the car? I've always liked traveling in the r.v. and never worried about it, because I knew no one knew I was traveling alone. My day has not been a good one but I knew it was only fair to let you all know I am here and maybe I can be more socialable tomorrow, would appreciate any thoughts any of you have of making such a long trip in a car and what about my Maggie?

Having a hard time dealing with missing out on this family time, and my grandson in this competition.

I don't usually give a particular point of view about others traveling, BUT, don't see any reason why you can't go by car. There are plenty of places that allow dogs, just call ahead. Sorry to hear about the RV, but glad it happened close to home. Maybe this trip will be about the end point, instead of the journey :) carold

Late morning coffee here! All Red Roof Inns take dogs, Maggie is small I'd go anyway. I may be the only one on the forum that actually prefers traveling by car, just for the reason . for me, that if something goes wrong in an RV its worse. Even tho mine is fairly new. Before youi all disagree, that is just my feeling about it. But the dog is a problem, so I will do more traveling by RV I hope in the future. Maggie is small and calm, I would go. Went to the lake today, but still too hot. heat didn't use to bother me as much as now. Spending too much time in the house, started peeling wallpaper. Got about half done, man is coming tomorrow to finish and start painting. Carol, Im so sorry your trip didnt work, but I'd go anyway somehow!

PS Carol, just a thought. Are you sure its brakes, could be a wheel bearing or something. Sometimes the worst looking things are something simple. Have it looked at before you decide your RVing days are over! Wendy

Oh Carol I'm so sorry but I do hope you either get your RV fixed fast or you decide to drive. Don't worry about your dog, I traveled back and forth across country with my standard poodle and never even mentioned him most of the time and no one said a word. Well, once at a state park in Big Sur but we wrapped him in a blanket and carried him in the cabin and nothing happened not even an extra charge on our bill. That was 10 years ago and I think dogs are accepted at all hotels. Also if you feel concerned about safety ask the desk clerk to put you in a room nearest the desk.

Don't give up your trip. Traveling alone by car is no big deal (that is the only option I've had so far) and there are lots of hotels that accept dogs.

I wouldn't give up on your trip. I'd just go to Plan B.....

CArol, I'm with the plan B plan. I use to travel by passenger van before getting the truck camper. I never had a problem with dogs and motels. Maggie is a good traveler and should be no problem. Good idea for a room closer to the office. You were so looking forward to your trip, so do it. Have the RV taken care of when you return. Linda

..

I vote for Plan B, too! Don't miss that rodeo!
Get the brakes fixed when you get back.
Just a PITA schlepping all that stuff in and out of a motel room all the time. ACK!

I'm just wondering why you would cancel the trip without finding out just what the problem is with the RV....It could be something really simple & inexpensive to fix....so I'm kind of wondering why you wouldn't check it out first.... :?:

I have done a lot of traveling alone, first on business, and later personally, even in the UK. I have several rules as a woman:

- Make sure your hotel has inside corridors. You do not want a room that opens directly onto the parking lot.
- Ask for a room near the elevator. And make sure no one announces your room number when you check in.
- You don't have to go expensive, but I always feel most comfortable in a chain hotel such as Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn.
- Lock your room using the deadbolt lock and the thing that prevents the door from being opened too far. I also hang out the do not disturb card.

Have fun and don't worry about being safe. Tens of thousands of women travel safely alone every day, and hotels are used to accommodating your needs.
