Some people are just nosey, that, coupled with rude is how they get their thrills. One of my close relatives is gay and before it was widely known, I had somebody ask me if she was gay, my response was that the next time my relative asked ME what I liked to do in bed, we'd have that discussion and I'd let that person know!   Like it was ever gonna happen or that I would tell them anyway!

Just say, "Oh, we're not a couple" and go on to something else. I also get "looks" - short hair and no interest in men - been there, done that. I don't want anyone who wants dinner on the table or can't find his socks, etc. I'm too old and set in my single ways and the dogs take up all the bed I'm not using. I find as I get older I value my female friends so much - they are supportive and not demanding. I'm of the school that I don't give a d**** what people think = I am what I am - whatever that is these days. I have several gay friends that I value highly.

Janice, when they ask if you are a couple, you could always tell them that you don't think that she's gay, but if they're interested in her they should tell her, LOL. Bet they'd get huffy for you implying that they were and maybe learn their lesson in assuming anything about anybody.

Bottom line is there is nothing wrong with being gay, straight, black, white or plaid! I've thought about this all afternoon. I also value my women friends, -- in fact at this time in my life I prefer them. It really doesn't make any difference what anyone thinks.

Vickie, that's a perfect response. I think you should try it Janice. Bet you don't hear anything about the subject again. Linda

My best traveling pals all have husbands at home who won't travel (or at least not with their spouses!). In fact, one dear friend and I have been through 4 husbands together! Two of mine and two of hers, the last one she still has, but I wouldn't be surprised if we out last him too! I guess it's just human nature that makes people wonder about private lives. My pet peeve is my cousins who are always asking "are you dating anyone special?" and I always say "nobody I'm bringing home to dinner!" You think they would quit asking.

I have never been married and for many years I didn't date at all, and I know some of my family thought I was gay, by some of the comments they made. It used to bother me but I don't care anymore. Most of them don't know about Steve either (I keep my personal life to myself even with my family). I have been approached by gay women before and I just tell them they are not my type and that I prefer more chest hair. If I think someone might think I am gay (because I have never been married) I just mention something about not finding the right guy yet (is there such a thing?) or being on on-line dating sites (been there, done that, doesn't work...).

One thing you could say is that you rent out a room in your house to help with expenses. I sometimes wonder about two people together of the same sex but would never ask or say anything on that order. None of my business anyways, and I am just curious and don't have a problem either way.

YOu girls are winners in my book,, every last one of you! I had to laugh @ Beth and Jean. That was hilarious!

Next topic!

I have been keeping up with this thread all day and have found myself at turns, very interested and highly amused!!!

Janice I feel for ya. Yep I think almost all of us can say, "Been there, done that". Really started while I was driving truck. Of course everyone really knows that there's only two reason a woman would be out driving truck! They're either gay (dyke) or out there hopping from sleeper to sleeper. Sheesh!

If they ask how ya met? Tell them outright. If it was an ad you put in the paper? That works. If they are coy and give you 'those' looks and asking? I think Vickie had the best idea. Tell them that you don't know if she would be interested in them or not that they will have to find out themselves! Cause yo! You aint pimping for no one.

This topic could have been such a 'hot button' and I have to say - we've all been very graceful - but then, we ARE women! I love Vickie's response too - and it would be a wonderful world if nobody cared - but, well, it's not quite that wonderful yet! But we're working on it!

"She is such an Michigan State fan that she dresses in almost all college garb. Almost by definition those are men's clothes."

If she is out of college I probably wouldn't go out in public with her with her dressed in all male or female college garb especially to places where I would care about peoples reactions.

Hey Janice? If it's a female and you get one of those smirky looks while they are asking??? You could always put on a hot sultry look on your face and ask, "Why? Are you interested in a 3 some"?

Or if it's some smartazzed guy, look him up and down but good and then tell him with a curled lip that you don't do men! And NO he can't watch.

Well heck I'd say " We're the Golden girls! Everyone knows Blanche loved sex with men and Dorathy thought sex was ok and Rose was clueless!!" OR I always say " And your point is???"

You guys are SO funny. I've been laughing out loud reading your responses, and am really surprised what a hot-button topic this has been.

Just to be clear, nobody actually comes out and asks ... but I LOVE Echo's & Sharon's responses.

OR ... if anyone does ask outright, I could say (truthfully), "No we're not, but I do know she's not involved with anyone. Are you interested?"
